Your not worried about air circulation with both griddle on?

Howdy Sparky, how's it going?  :)   No problems with air circulation. I leave the cooking grates in place and set the griddles right on top. The griddles have curled ends which raise them a bit above the cooking grates.

I will get a picture tomorrow and get it on here of the underside of the griddles.

That's buddy.  Your hamburgers look fantastic.

OK, 4 in the morning (doing a long cook for the review) and I got a photo of the underside of the griddle. Gotcha covered Sparky!!

I was wrong, I thought the griddle was raised but it is not. It sits right on top of the cooking grates. There is a notch though on the sides. I have had no problems whatsoever with the MAk when running both griddles.

Here is a great example of getting home late and using the MAK.

I had to work a double shift and Wendy had to stay over at the clinic so we hit the Local HEB and grabbed some hot dogs and buns.

Fired up the MAK and removed one of the cooking grates and added just one griddle
I know there have been concerns about airflow using two griddles. This picture shows how the griddle is not completely covering the cooking grate. You can see the opening on the left side.

When the MAK reached 350, on went the Hebrew Nationals

I toasted the buns first on the griddle and had them in the warming box (fast late night cook so less pictures on this one)

Well, that didn't take long

A little cheese and chili and onion and you got a quick pellet griddle cooked supper

Unless you're trying to get them further away from the heat source (so they run a little cooler) as far as I know, there's no reason to leave the cooking grates in place. The griddles are designed to go in without the grates and are open on the ends to allow for proper air circulation.  Remember MAK designed them.

Yup, I have found that they get screaming hot, I like using the grates to set them on just for that reason.
