Title: New cookstove and first cook
Post by: grossie on April 24, 2016, 08:22:53 PM
Picked up a Cabela's Ultimate Cookstove this week. I was on the fence, but the free pizza oven clinched the deal. I was planning on breakfast for my first cook, but family plans changed and that wasn't feasible. I couldn't wait until next week, so I cooked a sirloin and some chicken breasts on the griddle tonight. I thought it turned out pretty good. Unfortunately, so did the dog!

I have the Blackstone, which is similar. I have not seen that one before. Looks cool.

You can load it the way I have it, with grates on both sides, griddles on both sides, or a pizza oven on one side and either grates or a griddle on the other side.

I'll report back in when I try the pizza oven. For now, time to clean up!

I love my Camp Chef stove I have on my deck. It is my favorite cooking tool. I have this 3 burner Camp Chef Expedition.

http://www.campchef.com/expedition-3x-three-burner-stove.html

When I bought mine at Costco many years ago it was $149 dollars and came with a heavy cast iron griddle that covered two burners. I like the new restaurant style griddle that comes with it now. I have since bought the pizza oven for it.  We don't fry any food in the house any more and I have a couple of 14 inch cast iron griddles I use with it as well as using our old cast iron skillets. I like a burger cooked on a cast iron griddle better than one cooked on a grill. It is also a super steak cooker. Many weekends I will throw a pound of bacon on the griddle and then fry some eggs in the bacon grease.

2Poc - that's a good looking stove. And you definitely made out on the price!

How's the pizza oven. I still haven't opened mine.

I did burgers tonight...going to make another post about that.

I have a lot of griddle and flat top searches to do on LTBBQ!

Check YouTube as well. Some good Blackstone videos.

Thanks, will definitely check that out.

The Blackstone 36 cover fits great, though it could have a bit more height.

I can't store mine outside due to the rust

I hope that's not an issue for me. It's a long way around the house to the garage.

The pizza oven works great, I still have not made one from scratch but cook Pappas Murphy's in it a lot. Makes great cookies, garlic toast and about anything you would make in the oven in the house.

Mine stays on the deck year round. I keep it covered and have had no rust issues. Once a year I cover the burners well and take my pressure washer on low to clean it. Best outdoor cooker I have ever had.
