Post by: HighOnSmoke on March 15, 2018, 08:40:28 PM
Yep, another wing cut! Did I mention that we like wings?  8) Plus the son and his family are still visiting
and they requested wings.

Another good lookin' wing cook, Mike.
I notice you didn't pack the Vortex with charcoal, yet you still had plenty of heat for that cook.  On the Vortex page, everybody seems to cram as much charcoal as possible into the V to make it hotter than the next guy's.  Your approach is better, imho, because I don't want to have a huge pile of charcoal left over when I'm finished cookin'.  Seems to me that the V is a great tool to use for conserving charcoal while getting the max temp.

Very true Jack. I just figured with a short cook and burning lump charcoal, why waste charcoal when 3/4 of a chimney or less will get the job done.  My lid thermometer was running about 500 to 550 the whole cook. So plenty of heat to get the job done.

Agree ! ! !  I use one of those big commercial ice scoops:

to get charcoal out of my bin on the deck.

One scoop just about fills the small Weber chimney.  I put a second scoop in the bottom of the Vortex.  That just about does it for wings.  Plenty of heat and not too much leftover.
