Title: Hasty Bake Model 127
Post by: 70monte on March 22, 2018, 07:04:47 PM
I thought I would post some pictures of the older Hasty Bake I picked up last October off of facebook market place for $20.  Here are some before and after pictures.  The grill was in very good shape overall with no rust through anywhere.  The lift even still works.

Here is a couple of more pictures.  The tag was painted over when I first got it so even though I was pretty sure it was a Hasty Bake, I removed the paint to make sure and see what model it was.  I've been told it's a 60's model Boomer.  The temp gauge still works.

Thank you.  I had never cooked on one before I got this one.  I have only done simple stuff on it so far but would like trying to smoke on it.

I’ll be curious to hear about your experience with smoking. I used to have a HB Gourmet.  Low n slow smoking was a challenge for me.  I’ll admit, I wasn’t very patient though.

Excellent restore and great price!

Thank you.  I have a lot of hours in stripping the lid since it had three different coats of paint on it and it looked like that when it had the original paint on it, it had some kind of fire that burned the paint off.

Thanks.  I thought it was a great price and the repaint turned out pretty good.  I do have all new internals to install at some point but the original stuff still works so I will still use it for now.

Thank you.  I like restoring grills too.  About nine years ago I restored a Red 1995 Weber Performer with the stainless steel table.  I don't really use it anymore but I hate to get rid of it.

SO did you sandblast, or chemically strip of the old paint?

You just gotta love the old Hasty-Bake grills. Yours looks great!

I have a Model 130 that is from about the same time frame that is in great shape for an unrestored cooker and I use it about as much as my newer Hasty-Bakes.

I think that the easiest way to smoke on one is with a fuse burn and I can give you my site with the information on how to do one on the Hasty-Bake cooker that will work fine.

Hope this helps with this type of burn for your cooker.

On the lid, I used chemical stripper plus a scraper to remove the paint.  There were three different coats and colors on the lid so it was a touch job.  The chemical stripper wasn't as effective as I would have liked so I did a lot of old fashion scraping with a scraper.  On the main body since it appeared to still have the original paint, I just scuffed it up really good and painted over it.  I used high temp paint on both lid and body.

Thanks Dave, I will check your site out and try that fuse burn.
