Title: Hi from Houston
Post by: wrj3014 on May 07, 2014, 02:06:06 PM
Hello! My name is Robb and I live in Houston,Tx. I just recently purchased a new Charbroil Tru grill the other day after about 4 years of being without. Finally!

I had initially found your info on a Charbroil site and looked like you had started your own site where folks can be be involved with REAL people and the love for grilling..etc

My biggest and most trickiest one has always been properly "smoking" (because I have a propane grill) of a brisket and retaining that "red ring" Have yet to get it right.

Glad to have you here Robb. We have several members form the Houston area. But, be sure you are carrying bail money for them if you decide to get together for munch with Capt. Jack, or IR2dum.... :D :D :D

(Just kidding guys) ;)

The smoke ring comes from products of combustion reacting with the meat.. You are very unlikely to get a very pronounced smoke ring from a gas burning appliance or electric smoker. Wood and charcoal burning produce a more pronounced smoke ring.

The smoke ring does not provide any flavor although impressive to see.

In other words you don't need a smoke ring for great tasting brisket ;)

And welcome to the forum from Southern California BTW.

Muebe speaks the truth.  A smoke ring is only decoration and has nothing to do with anything else.  If you must have one, try mixing some Morton's Tender Quick into your rub.  Be careful, it is salty.

Welcome from North Carolina  :D

That's funny Tim. If I remember correctly, the last time Capt Jack and I got a call from you was when you were being detained by a fundraiser for the the Martindale Benevolent Policeman's Fund. We were ready to come bail you out, but luckily, you have a wife with a sweet smile that swayed the officer.

(just kidding Tim)  ;)
