Can the PTG sear?
« Reply #-1 on: May 29, 2013, 09:16:32 AM »
Well let's find out. I needed to get the PTG out of the storage shed. I will be heading to Lake Jodie later this week and wanted to test fire before I go to make sure it is still operational.

Fired her up. Man she is dusty...

550F setpoint on the PID...

Yep she is there...

Couple of thick center cut loin chops...

Done when my ultra fast green Thermapen read 145F at center...

Plated with easy mac ;)

That little guy can sear real well. And the case fan I added keeps the PID internal compartment cool. The left side of the grill stays cool to the touch now when at high temps.

She is ready for the trip after a quick cleaning ;)

Not bad at all!

How do you think the powder coat will hold up to those temps?

Well not sure. I have not seen any issues yet. Of course I have not used it in a while. Bought this mainly for camping and travel.

I used to get my junior that hot and no powder coating issues. Hope the coating holds up. If not I am sure high temp paint will work ;)
