Steak La Cotta
« Reply #-1 on: July 30, 2013, 07:43:14 PM »
A few weeks back the lady of the house announced that she was reorganizing our upstairs closet, yes the large one. And when finished was going for a week to the east coast to spend time with the oldest daughter. A fear came over me, is nothing safe?
At some point I heard, "What the hell is this, and where did it come from?" I instantly said it was mine, and I'll take care of it. I got the look, and I promptly put it.... in the garage. I have NO idea where it came from, but now it was safe. I did a little research, and tonight because of the rain, it will cook our steak. The first two shots show the device, a La Cotta, and the third pic the steaks with Fine Swine and Bovine plus a bit of fresh ground pepper. I'll report back after dinner with the results.....

Interested in seeing your results. I guess your supposed to just give the thing a rinse in warm water then place on you cooktop. Don't add any oil and just place the steaks in it. It is also supposed to have a 1/4 inch gap between the lid and bottom while cooking. I see someone use a fork to create this gap.

Apparently these La Cottas reside in a great many homes without the owner's knowledge. From what I've read, if you don't have one, your nearest yard-sale will have one. I honestly have never seen one until recently.

Well it's made of volcanic stone, and it smells like a volcano while using it. But it does a pretty nifty job cooking a steak. They (The La Cotta people) claim it makes a tender steak out of a not-so-tender-cut, so we used chuck steaks. As it turned out.... all claims were met. Chuck steak had a nice color, was very juicy, and for what it was, it was extremely tender. If you see one of these things grab it, I think you'll enjoy it. Especially on a rainy day!

These things are great...have used them over an open fire for years. They make great lil pizzas too. I only use water after to clean with a SS scrubber. No soap..it will taste like soap. Handle it just like cast iron. We also make pudgie pies, with pizza dough or even just white bread. You can add anything. Pam  .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ

You're right Smoke, Hman and his wife sounds too familiar, my wife loves to throw my things out she thinks I never use!! Don

I don't think they make these anymore, I can not find them on the net except for a few on ebay. I found an original ad where they sold for $8.95 and that had to be a while ago!

The dreaded garage sale is coming up. So, I went through the garage and all the closets - no La Cotta. Once the garage sale is done, I'll have to look for one on eBay!

Nice meal!
