One of the best posts that I have read here. You are very blessed to still have him. My dad died suddenly when I was 24. Prayers and best wishes from Minnesota

Your post is about as real as it gets. Man....makes me proud to know you.

I read it a couple of times, and seeing the pics of the scenery you and your dad reminds me that while we live in "America the Beautiful" ...it is our people, and not the scenery that we should honor, cherish and admire.

Please  pass along my respect and thanks to your Dad, and my thanks for his service. It is for men like him that we are able to say "Land of the Free - Home of the Brave.

Sparky,
I just got home a little while ago and finally got to sit down and check my computer.  I have been out shooting in our NC State Silhouette match for most of the day.  I know what it is like to get a phone call and then you have to hit the road ASAP.  The emotions run high.  I am so glad you were able to get there and spend some quality time with your Dad.  You'll always have fond memories of "things" you did together.  My prayers go out to you and your family.

Been out of town for 5 days and just found your post Sparky. Treasure your Dad while you can. He is absolutely a member of the greatest generation of Americans.

My Dad will be 95 on June 3rd. He served in the Navy in WW-II and was a gunners mate on the battleship USS Nevada and was in every major battle in the South Pacific. He is in the VA nursing home in Pell City AL now and is pretty advanced stages of dementia but relatively good health physically. The last two times I was out there he knew who I was which is unusual and we were able to have a conversation of sorts.

Sparky I know how hard it is to see the strongest man you ever knew and your biggest hero go through this. We will keep you and your Dad in our thoughts and prayers.

Also, there are  so many VA benefits that most folks don't realize are out there. There is Aid and Assistance that will help pay for his care at home or in an assisted living facility. They will help pay for people to come in and help care for him, or even just to help family members cover the costs.
