We are following the Tendarub instructions:
Pork ribs trimmed St.Louis style with silver remained
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/0208151116_zps064c91de.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/0208151116_zps064c91de.jpg.html)
Applied some Honey Rib Rub from Fathers Country Hams to both sides

Shook the bottle well (that was scary) and applied Tendarub to both sides
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/0208151124_zps57942a4e.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/0208151124_zps57942a4e.jpg.html)
Went outside and fired up a full chimney of Royal Oak Briquettes...( Smoochy is still afraid of Charcoal Starters)

I can hardly wait to see this. ::) :P
-
Where is the fire extinguisher at? ???
-
Nurse Wendy has set up a triage tray in case something happens to Smoochy during the challenge......
The women-folk look nervous and concerned......

Where is the fire extinguisher at? ???
Smoochy probably has a pumper truck waiting in the driveway, just in case.

Has a bunker been dug yet? ???
Hi Wendy!
-
Spread out an even layer of fully lit coals in the PK Grill.
The instructions say to grill at medium heat (275-300) I will let the grills get past the heat curve and it is on and popping
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/0208151210_zpse5d35d94.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/0208151210_zpse5d35d94.jpg.html)

Here we go
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/0208151219_zpsb47da27d.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/0208151219_zpsb47da27d.jpg.html)
-
Instructions call for applying Tendarub 3-4 times during the first half hour. We are flipping and basting every 7 minutes then will just flip every 7 minutes after the first half hour.......had to adjust the vents on the Pk to cut down on the char
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/0208151227_zpsd9b496cf.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/0208151227_zpsd9b496cf.jpg.html)
My neighbor came out and says whatever I am cooking sure smells good......I have to agree.......these ribs smell good......
-
Is it done yet? .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.
-
We are 50 minutes in and the ribs are becoming pliable but not ready yet. Still flipping every 7 minutes
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/0208151304_zps7cb755d0.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/0208151304_zps7cb755d0.jpg.html)
-
Don't forget the 90 degree bend test
-
We are exactly 1 hour into the challenge. The ribs are not ready yet. We don't have the 90 degree bend yet ;)
The ribs are bending more when I flip and the meat is starting to pull back from the bones.
The challenge is going to take a bit longer than advertised but I think that was due to me backing off the vents a bit too much on the PK to cut down on the airflow to keep flames down.
The PK is vented so enough air can't come in to support a fire. I had a small flame up at the beginning because I left the lid open to long when taking pics.
Just want everyone to know that Smoochy is just fine ;)
-
Aren't the bones supposed to be 70% exposed by now?
At 90% bone exposed and 90 degree bend they are done ???
I thought you were supposed to cook them with the lid up?
-
Well, I always grill with the lid down. As seen on the official Tendarub video, Percy had to use a spray bottle to keep the flames down.
We have some good bendage going on (bendage...yeah I just made that up ;) )
Ribs are going to come off now
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/0208151330_zpsc4fc539c.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/0208151330_zpsc4fc539c.jpg.html)
-
It has been decided (hey, if Wendy wants to be called Mr.s Smoke she has to do this ;) ) that Wendy will take the first taste of ribs from the Tendarub challenge.
We will be given either a thumbs up (good) waving flat hand ( so so sign ) or thumbs down (bad stay away )
Stay tuned.....................
-
Well that ain't a 90 degree bend and no bone pull away like in the video.
But the guarantee is one hour so you did what you could Smoke
-
Still watching and waiting for results and taste profile. don't smoke a cigarette after..just sayin. .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Looking good,
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/0208151347_zpsd8452306.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/0208151347_zpsd8452306.jpg.html)
All cut up, Wendy stop hiding under the table, Smoochy can see you........the meat is extremely tender
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/0208151349_zpsfcb88a40.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/0208151349_zpsfcb88a40.jpg.html)
Wendy always laughs when she is extremely nervous

Here is one of the bones:
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/0208151409_zps6e3e310f.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/0208151409_zps6e3e310f.jpg.html)
Final thoughts:
My apologies to Tendarub. I kinda turned em into a joke around here but I have to admit this is a pretty darn good product.
It took my ribs 1 hour and 10 minutes...not too shabby for fall off the bone ribs 8)
The texture of the ribs were not spongy. The meat had some chew to it but was very tender. I knew when I cut the rib up that I was onto something. They cut the same as ribs that were on my smoker for 6 hours.
Wendy said the texture of the ribs on the meat side felt like the ribs were almost fried. She really enjoyed them and she didn't even add bbq sauce which she always does.
The ribs did not have a smoke ring, but they had a nice smokey flavor to them. They were really good and Wendy and I killed the entire rack in one setting.
Suggestions:
I would rub them down first with your favorite rub a couple of hours before adding the Tendarub and firing up the grill.
Use a good charcoal grill where you can control the air flow....( PK, Weber, Charbroil CB series)
Let the coals get past their heat curve before putting on the ribs.
I think I will try adding more rub to the rib when it is basted during the first 30 minutes for more flavor.
I have some Tendarub left and I am going to use it on some London Broil the next time we grill one up........Looks like I am going to have to order some more of this stuff......fall off the bones ribs in just about an hour........outrageous. 8)
I would also like to thank everybody for putting up with a 54 year old man that plays with a little stuffed frog. My brother and I have the unenviable task of clearing out our parents house next week and the Tendarub challenge was a real nice way for me to get my mind off of things...and for that I thank and appreciate all of you :-* :-*
-
Ok so is TendaRub your goto way of cooking ribs now?
And are they as good as Sizzler's ribs?
-
Three cheers for Smoke, Wendy, and Smoochy!

Well, usually when I want ribs, I have to do them on my day off. Tendarub is great for during the work week. You can get home at 5 and be eating a slab of poke ribs by 6:30-6:45....not a bad deal.
As good as the Sizzler ribs......I know Mama would have said no :'( ......but I think she would have liked these.
I did another rack after the challenge for the neighbors ( they watched our dogs when Wendy was in the hospital) and they liked them. They liked the char and the texture as well. They liked the fact that the ribs were not spongy and they had a tug yet the bone pulled clean.

Three cheers for Smoke, Wendy, and Smoochy!

I tell ya Sparky, Wendy and my two neighbors tore through those ribs. :P :P These are completely different than slo smoked ribs but just as tender.
I think if I am off and have the time, I smoke em Sparky style 8), but this is a great way to have a rack of tender ribs during the week after work or when camping when ya got other things to do......heck..tailgating would be a great way to use Tendarub.....
They really were good...trust Smoke on this one, our resident rib-master ;)

Well you got my interest, I'll have to give TendaRub a try also. ;)

That's what has me interested in this stuff, there are times when tending a smoker for hours is not possible or desirable. There are times when we are on a road trip in the RV and we want ribs for dinner, problem is that we also like to go out and do things, like motorcycle rides, all day long and don't want to be tied down at the campground slow smoking all day. Situations like that would make TendaRub a good second choice over spending all day at the campground tending a smoker while everyone else is out enjoying themselves.
