Title: Need pic posting help
Post by: nylic76 on February 11, 2014, 05:34:04 PM
I have posted pics on various forums for years with no problems, but this one has me stumped.  I can only get thumb nails to post which you then have to click to get a larger pic. How do I get a larger pic to post without the extra step of clicking the thumb nail.

Post the picture to another site, like Photobucket, and use the [ img ][ /img ] tags to the external link.

Like Cajun said, the easiest way to avoid the 2nd click is an external host.  Open the photo in Photobucket and click in the img box to the right.  That will copy the code that you need to paste into your message.

Picasa also has an option (down on the right side) you can click to "Link to this photo". But it's not as easy to use.

This trick will work with any of the hosting sites:

Step 1: Upload your photos to your photo account (PhotoBucket, Picasa, etc.)

Step 2:   When you're ready to post the picture...

Internet Explorer:  From your photo account (Photobucket, Picasa, etc.) "Right Click" on the photo you want to post, and click "Properties". Highlight the Address (URL), and "Copy" it.

FireFox: From your photo account (Photobucket, Picasa, etc.) "Right Click" on the photo you want to post, and click "Copy Image Location".

Step 3: Go back to your forum post, click the "Insert Image" button and "paste" the URL inside the IMG tags.

It will look something like this ►  [img]HTTP://Photo_URL_Goes_Here.jpg[/img]

When you click "preview" or "post" your image will show up.

Out of curiosity, is there a technical reason you have to go through the second step of uploading?

Why can't you just insert the picture from your computer with the appropriate size and not have to go through the second uploading step?

I'm not sure how this happened, I certainly don't remember doing it  ::), but whenever I post a reply or start a new topic my photobucket acct pops up in attachments or other options?

You can insert a pic straight from your PC. Click "Attachments and other options" and attach the pictures.

BUT there are limitations as to size and content (it MUST be a food-related photo) and it will only appear as a thumbnail which must be clicked on to view.

Ultimately attachments create extra cost to the forum because they reside on the forum server, which takes additional space and bandwidth, which both have to be paid for.

Photos uploaded to a photo hosting site have less limitations and are seen full size in the post. They  are never seen by the forum server. Instead, the img tag redirects your browser to pull the image from the hosting site (Photobucket, Picasa, etc.) and display it as part of the web page. This creates less overhead for the forum server which in turn saves the forum money.

Hope this answers your question in a way that makes sense.  :)
