Hummingbird pictures Not

Well, I saw Don liked to takes Bird pictures so I thought I would give it a whirl. I spent at least four hours last weekend on patrol and never got a picture of a hummingbird. Here is a swell picture of my feeder I will get that bugger in flight real soon......

We have 5 feeders out and are getting  a few hummers but not nearly as many as usual. I will try and get some pics as soon as Dee teaches me how to take pictures.

Keep trying KM  They are hard to catch! I used to have the patience to sit a long time but not now. I have not tried for any this year. Near the last of Aug. and Sept. I will get more coming through heading south for the winter and see them more often. I now see a resident male and a female feeding once in a while. They don't stay at the feeder long. When they start tanking up to head south they stay longer. Good luck! Don

I just put a new hummingbird feeder out yesterday. Hope they find me. I love to watch them

I captured this one today with my webcam. Took almost 15 min. for the little guy to show up. I slowed down the video so you can at least see him feeding. The actual time was just over 16 seconds that he stuck around for a drink. Never even said thanks man

That was one thirsty humming bird Don. I have the camera out now but I have to be there to push the button. We have a couple different kinds, shiny green ones and brown/black ones.

Yes, we have mostly the green ones but I have seen brown ones also. Was wondering if maybe it is a male and female markings. Not a bird person so I dont know

Hummingbirds need to eat more than their own weight in food every day

I got a feeder out back but it is tough to catch them eating let alone get a picture of it!

 I've got 5or 6 hummingbirds every year. This year they had about 8 babies. Mine like to drink out of the Baltimore Oriole feeder instead of their own. Same stuff but the feeder is orange color. The secret to having them every year is to have your feeder out very early in the year. They send scouts out to find the feeders first before they build a nest. For food they like 1/2 cup of sugar to 2 cups of water. If you don't have red on your feeder then add a few drops of red food coloring to the water. Don't make it sweeter as they won't drink as often.

We are still having quite a bit of activity at our feeder - primarily Rufous (orange), Calliope (looks kind of like a cutthroat trout), and Broad tail (looks like the tail waggles)

Concerned about the seed feeder however, we formerly had Evening Grosbeaks, black cap grosbeaks, cross bills, and gold finches - none as of late.  We only see nuthatches and chickadees.
