Pit Barrel Cooker Co.
« Reply #-1 on: September 28, 2012, 08:07:31 PM »
Got back into barrel cooking. Kora Smoker can vouch, that I cooked exclusively on a vertical barrel smoker and grilled on it as well. Family had a mutiny and I sold my drum to Kora. It just hasn't been the same and I have had enough.
Discovered this company on the Patio Daddio web site and got very curious. After numerous calls to Noah, I pulled the trigger.
I am going to do a series of cooks with this smoker and will post my observations.
It is a 30 gallon barrel. There is no thermometer. You do not cook based on temp. You pre-set one air vent on the bottom and away you go. It has a grill for grilling or for the times you want to set your food on a grate.....but...........
that is not the main way to cook on this smoker. You hang your food..chikcens,Turkeys,Briskets,Butts,Ribs..........and so on.
It is a set it and forget it smoker and it uses Kingsford!! It is extremely heavy duty and well made. It is very affordable. Free Shipping!!!!!
Here is the web-site:  http://pitbarrelcooker.com/
Here are some pictures of it all brand new and purdy:
Of course, Smoochy saw the box get delivered!!

Has genuine horse-shoe handles and a horseshoe stand!!

Yes Smoochy, you can keep it!!

Smoochy got his hat on when he saw the horse-shoe handles.

Inside you see the heavy duty hangers and grate. The charcoal basket holds 8 lbs of Kingsford

You wont be doing that again Smooch!!

There are no dampers or anything to tweak. There is one spinner air vent that is on the bottom and it is factory set to your elevation!! The barrel is designed to be set it and forget it...you just light the coals...wait 20 minutes...hang your food......come back in a pre-determined time and the chow down!!  Will keep you all posted!!

Good question Captain.......I am supposed to fill the charcoal basket first..then remove 1/4 of the briquettes and light em in a chimney starter....when gray....toss em on top of the unlit...the cooker is ready immediately to hang the food and put on the lid and walk away.....or sit next to it and have a beer and stogie!!   ;) ;)

Cooking by time and it not having much for ventilation looks like it is more convection cooking. Looks interesting and looking forward to your thoughts on it.

I have an Orion cooker that cooks by convection also, everything is cooked by time. Difference is charcoal is on the outside of the cook chamber. Cooking time is fast in comparison to slow 'n low; 3 racks of hanging spare ribs in 1 hour and 20 minutes. I hear turkey is great in these, gotta try that soon.

Great looking cooker.

Watched the videos and I was surprised about the cooker holding 8 racks of ribs.  Nice.

It has been a long time since I cook in a barrel smoker and I forget the quantity of meat one can hang in it.
