Nice first cook on that there PBC Mike!!! Maybe they should pack a good pair of Mig welding leather gloves with that bad boy. I use Hillman mig welding gloves with my Lump pumperĀ®  grill  ;D
I got some linemen gloves that we use at work if we encounter anything that is energized. Yeah, hours later the steel rods were still hot. Don't ask me how I found out. ;D I was taking them out to dump out the ashes and put a cover over it.
Kinda like taking the bubba pucks out of the Bradley bare handed. :P

Great first cook Mike! Awesome looking chicken! Yes, be careful when removing rods the Pit Mitts come in handy for that :)

The wife asked, what did I use to season the chicken with.  I told her, the
Free sample seasoning that came with the Pit Barrel Cooker. (All purpose). She said "I love it, it's so good". I went under  the skin also with it. She couldn't believe how juicy the chicken was when it came out. Especially since the bird was cut in half.
Think my mom is going to get one,
She also misses cooking with charcoal.

Good info Mike. I'm going to break mine in this weekend, weather permitting. Freezing rain tonight and tomorrow morning here.  :'(
I like that you mentioned the rub under the skin. I would not have thought of that!
Fingers crossed for tomorrow!
