Convince me - which air fryer????
« Reply #-1 on: February 26, 2018, 10:01:03 PM »
I've been pondering this air fryer thing for a while now.  I used to have (actually still have it) one of those Galloping Gourmet hot air ovens from the late 1970's info-mercial.  Yep, we bought it way back when and I loved it.  Wife was not so fond of the counter space it took up, and when I had the travel trailer, I never fired up the oven or stove top.  I just used that old school hot air fryer.  My complaint with that one was it was a booger to clean, the heating element was permanently attached to the top, and you had to reach down inside a hot glass container to fetch your food.  But the concept worked great cooking wise.

I will still have to contend with the counter space warden, but I'm really thinking about getting one of these new models.  Next is deciding on which one.....

1) Philips - too expensive compared to the other stuff out there.  Looks like mostly paying for the name and first to market, so it's out.
2) Power Air Fryer XL at Sam's Club - a contender (and goes on sale Feb 28th for $99).  However I've also seen some reviews about issues (more in a few)
3) NuWave Brio, either the 3qt or the 6qt (with a divider) look to be contenders (more in a few also)
3a) the NuWave hot air oven (the modern version of the Galloping Gourmet from the 70's)
4) The Chefman - fairly new entry to the field, but pricing seems good.

I'm starting to lean towards the NuWave Brio.  Since it's only the 2 of us, I'm thinking the 3qt will be enough.  But I would love to hear from those of you who have hot air fryers and what models you have or wish you had.

Probably the best head to head comparison between the Power Air Fryer XL and the NuWave Brio was this youtube video.  It's sort of long, but he tells it like he feels it, and he had me rolling in the floor.

This is the 1970's model we have....

We recently bought the NuWave Brio 10 qt.  We use it a lot more than I thought we would.

It probably won't pass muster with the "counter queen".  It's large...16 X 13 and 12 " high.  But it cooks a lot.

Just my 2 cents, but I have the XL and seems to work well.  Now the there are 2 things I dont like about it but I found away around those and will post a video soon.

I sent Tom a quick video and he seems to like the fix, so I hope to have them finished soon.

I believe this will be a big help for the handle issue

I had the 3 qt Nuwave Brio and loved it! BUT it was really too small and there is only 2 of us. I opted for the Cook's Essential 5 quart. I gave the Nuwave to my wife's mother.  I would have gone with the 5 quart Brio but it wasn't available at the time.

I have the Power AirFryer OVEN, & I really like it.
I use the rotisserie quite often. It also has wire racks.
This is the best of the three I own, IMHO.

Ok I am new at this but I love my Chefman 5.5 still for $79.00

Not many bells but looks sturdy & cooks great. I think they are an up & coming company. Now that being said i have only had it a week but as my other post said "I am in love" ;) ;) ;)

These will all be dated in a year or so but for now this does it for me for $79.00

Bought mine at Sam's and was told there was a 90 day time on return.  You should know by the first few weeks weather you will like it or now .

Just watch how the basket/drawer slide in, it tyakes a bit but once you got it then no issues  (just my 2 cents)

Only issue I have is the poor handle design but I hope my videos will be online in a day or so to help with that

I love the Air Fryer XL - but....will be buying the new model they have out pretty soon. It has shelves - much more capacity - and even has a rotisserie...

I saw the infomercial for that Tristar Power Fryer Oven on DirecTV tonight!!!!   Yep, another model to add to the decision mix.   I liked the multiple shelves/racks and rotisserie. The rotisserie basket was a good idea also. Price was $160 though (but in "4 easy payments").

And the counter space warden gave me the evil eye when she caught me looking at that infomercial.  Didn't say anything, but I know that look.  May have to just pick out my warm spot on the sofa and make a decision here.....

Officially I'm still liking the NuWave Brio models (3 and 6 liter).
