If you need 22LR AMMO and you live near a Gander Mountain Store they just got them in. I hope this is a sign more stores like Bass Pro and WalMart get it as well.
Our local WalMart gets a few boxes every couple weeks... But if you aren't there Sunday morning at 7:30 sharp it's gone in about 15 minutes if that long.

There's a gun show around here at least once a month, plenty of ammo available in bulk. That's where I get mine.

As soon as it hits the shelves it's bought up due to some fear that there won't be any ammo available in the future.

Drew -

Without this thread dissolving into a political discussion.....Our history in the US is that when Presidents of a certain political party are elected - and if they are "more gun control" oriented in their philosophy - we panic here.
My personal opinion is that if we as a united people would not over-react, that these shortages would not exist or at least they would be very minor.

But - with our current political environment, and our govt. ( for no explained reason) buying up all of the ammo it can - you can see how we might feel.....uneasy about motives and potential agendas unknown...

Again - I do not want to feel like we have to lock this thread - so, do not allow it to become a political discussion springboard guys...o.k.?

Exactly where I was going as I was typing a response and decided to shorten it to not go into politics.  Thanks for your explanation that I agree is very accurate.

Terry, I work for Academy Sports and we get 22 LR in once a week if lucky and there is a limit of 2 boxes per customer. I think you have a new Academy in Mobile, check there as they are keeping the newer stores more stocked. The other ammo is coming in better than it was but the 22 is still in very short supply. My opinion, and it is only that, is that so many people bought the Modern Sporting Rifles (AR style) in 22 caliber because they could afford to go out and burn 1000 rounds just for fun with a 22 but not in 223 or 556. That and the profit margin on 22 caliber is so much less than larger calibers so manufacturers have cranked up production on the calibers that have a higher profit margin.

At last year's NRA convention I discussed this with the CCI Rep who told me they are producing 4 million rounds per day and building more capacity, however as he explained it if you divided up one day's production between only one large chain store like wally world it would only equal 2 cases of 500 round bricks per wally world in just Texas. Combine that with the gun show ammo dealers who spend their week going to each store at exactly the time they put out the ammo each week and buying their 2 box limit at each store in the area at 24-29 dollars a box so they can take it to the gun show and sell it for 60-85 dollars a box and what has been stated before and it's easy to see why there isn't any available to the average buyer.

I am able to get anything except 22's now , I had no intention of a political debate. Although it is hard not to these days.
22's are affordable to shoot for fun. And real hard to find so I shared the info.
  And I'll do it again too :o ;D ;D ; > ;D
