Played it safe. Cranked up the Boone to 475 and let her rip!! I was pleasantly surprised to see a good amount of smoke at this higher temperature. Way too good results for doing nothing....I can get used to this!!
Were they good....Pops had -2-....he never eats -2- :)

Burgers look great! It won't take a guy like you too long to appreciate the kick back style of pellet cooking.. What's next?
-
Excellent! Thats exactly my first cook when I got my Yoder. So far I havent pulled anything out of my pellet pooper that I didnt (and everyone else) think was the best Ive ever done. Congrats!
-
Looking great Smoke!!!
-
Now, you're cookin'..........tell Smoochy to save a couple for me ;)
-
Congrats on the new smoker. Get some grill grates. You'll love them. 8)

Not gonna mess with the Boone----yes sir no deer pellets!! :D

Ditto on the grill grates smoke.
And yank that foil off the drip pan ;)
-
I used the foil to help with clean-up...does it mess something up??

I used the foil to help with clean-up...does it mess something up??
I used to foil when I started pellet smoking and no longer do. Here are my reasons for no longer doing it...
It is tough to get the foil tight so grease can get trapped in pockets or even in between the foil. The grease in between the foil cause the pan to be dirty anyways.
The foil can cause an interruption in the grease flow.
IMHO the foil blocks the infrared energy created on the drip pan and may cause excessive heat build-up on the pan resulting in possible warping of the pan.
To me letting the grill run on high for 10 minutes after cooking to do a quick burn off is much easier than fooling with foil. Just give it a quick scrape and be done with it.
I also will pull the pan out and stick it in my 4 burner RED for 30 minutes when stuff is really caked on. It acts like a self cleaning oven.
You can try foiling if you like Smoke but you might find that no foil is better... at least I do ;)
-
Makes sense!! I can crank up the Boone for a bit for a burn off and then just scrape it the next day!! Will give it a shot because I have read about GMG grease pans warping and I wondered if they foiled and if so, did that contribute to the warping?

Muebe is wise. I went through the same process and started with foiling. I don't know if it changed my cooking results, but it did very little to make clean up easier. More of a pain then what it was worth.

When I purchased my Traeger, the owner of the store told me to always foil. True to what has been said, the grease always somehow ends up underneath it as well as not flowing easily down because of the ripples in the foil. I still foil to this date but might give it a try without it. I've gotten good at using heavy duty foil and not getting but just a bit of grease under it ad getting the ripples out of it.

I got the 18" wide roll and it covers completely from one side to the other.....
-
Same here. Used to foil, but now I scrape. I only put down foil if I'm doing fish after a pork/chicken cook. (mainly during Lent)

So, without foil and just scaping: no problems with flare-ups?? no problems with aromas from the previous cook tainting the present cook?
I am guessing during the warming up of the grill whatever residue is left heats up and is gone??

i also would like to know. Only reason I foil is cause I was advised to do it and my poopers manual also suggest it it. I sometimes go 2 to three cooks without changing it and never get any aromas from the previous ;D

No problems with residue. Just burn-off and scrape then ready for the next cook ;)

OK..will save my foil for wrapping my briskies since I don't have any butcher paper ;)

Nice Treager Mike.
Pam, I like Tapatalk on my cell phone as it is easier to navigate than the browser on android. iT DOES LOCK UP AND FORCE CLOSE A LOT WHEN YOU TRY TO ENLARGE PICTURES BUT FOR $3.99 i CANT COMPLAIN.

I use it 99% of the time. I don't have a problem uploading at all. Now with this iPhone 5. The pics fly up quick on my home network and web When on the go. It would lock up sometimes on my old iPhone 3GS.

I use Tapatalk 100% of the time. I miss emoticons though......unless I just don't know how to use them.

Congrats on the new pellet grill and outstanding burgers to boot. Pops had two, so you know it's a good product.
