Prime Rib for Christmas so Turkey for New Year dinner.  Have seen up to a 16 lb turkey in the Green Mountain Grill Davy Crockett but that might be pushing it.  A 10 pounder on the other hand fits real nice.  Seasoned on/under the skin and into the fridge wrapped in plastic for 4 hours.

Preheated the GMG Davy Crockett to 225ºF with Hickory.  Smoked the bird for 2 hours at 225º.  Bumped the pit temp to 325ºF until the breast IT reached 170ºF.  Rested under foil tent for 20 minutes before serving.  For planning purposes only:  It took 4¼ hours to reach 170º + 20 minutes rest.

Impressed with the temp control of this unit right out of the box.  GMG did good!  The unit is very quiet.  The fan does not run constantly but only when needed to maintain temp.  It's deceiving cause it almost feels like the unit is not on at times.  Used about 4 - 4½ lbs of pellets for the cook (30 minutes of preheat, 225º for 2 hours, and 325ºF for 2¼ hours).  For me, about a pound of pellets per hour is fine.  Going to really enjoy using this unit on the road and at home for meals for two.

Great looking turkey Pete!

Have you ever tried cooking a spatchcock turkey on the Davy Crockett?  I think it may be too large to fit, even at 10lbs.  Thoughts?
