Hello All- Smoking Newbie- Traeger Pellet Grill
« Reply #-1 on: April 16, 2015, 10:45:42 PM »
Hello All,

I have just purchased first pellet fed smoker - Traeger model 07C from Costco. Look forward to new hobby of smoking.
Live in Toronto area and sure I will have many questions. I have already had some difficulty regulating temps on low smoke settings, and have started to toy with settings on the unit. Anyone have similar issues?

All the best,

Matt

Welcome from Southern California.

The smoke setting on the controller does not keep a set temp. It uses a timing cycle to create smoke and ignores the actual temp in this setting. There is a little hole that you can use a paper clip on to change the timing. This is the P setting. The higher the number the more the swings. I would not go past 4 or risk a flame-out.

After changing the P setting you need to give the grill 15 minutes to see how it is operating.

Welcome from North Carolina.  We have several Traeger owners here who have upgraded their controller.  They will undoubtedly chime in and tell you what they did.  From all accounts, the mods are worth it.
