You Haven't Bought the Turkey YET???

"Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow!"
Most of you have had your turkey defrosting in fridge since the weekend.
A frozen turkey can take up to four days to defrost.
What about us idiots who wait till the last minute.
If you can find one pay the extra money & get a fresh turkey, although often partially frozen they aren't hard frozen.
If all you can find is a boulder( been there) a water bath at 40F will defrost much quicker than in a fridge.
Take an ice chest & fill with cold water& put the turkey in ( don't worry we'll sterilize the chest later)
Chech the water temp an hour later , you want it to be 40 or below.
Wednesday open the bird & pull the giblets.
The bird doesn't have to be completely unthaw end.
Put in a  2 & 1/2 gal. Zip lock with your brine overnite, that'll finish the defrosting.

Season & cook bird T-Day & you're golden.
Wash ice chest with soap & water & rub with a weak bleach solution
It's safe for use again

Finally as a last minute fail safe buy three 5 LB chickens & smoke them.
Easier to cook & taste better ;D

A couple years ago I took my 'free' frozen one, and put it in a turkey brining bag placed inside of a (clean) cat littler bucket.  Filled with the warm brine and stuck that in a little coleman camping fridge.     Thawed out fine (or, 'enough') in about 48 hours, with very little mess.

I've been brining and smoking the fresh birds now for a few years. I think we can taste the difference, and the $ is not that much. We don't get the fresh organic free range pedicured one from whole paycheck.

This year - No bird - Mixing it up and going with a Rib Roast.

My extended family is going on a cruise so we had (overcooked, not by me) turkey last weekend...

Good post.  For one of the few times in recorded history I actually did get the bird in the fridge to thaw last Saturday so I won't be doing the cooler trick this year.

I thaw and brine in the cooler. I wash the Playmate and bird before brining. I make a concentrate of sea salt, peppercorns and gahhlick then pour over bird. then cover with water and ice in a cold, 36º cooler in a Ohio garage. Works for me.
Will brine overnight then air dry and come to room temp before dropping in the BEESR.  Pam .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Got me a Butterball the other day and it has been thawing in the fridge. We won't be here for Thanksgiving but will smoke it maybe today or this weekend. For the first time in my life I won't need to thaw it in the sink :D
