Air Fryer section
« Reply #-1 on: February 04, 2017, 11:16:41 AM »
Do we/should we have a section for this?

I've been watching some YouTube videos and looking at a Facebook forum for tips on how to best use it. Found what looks to be a handy chart for cooking times and temps.

Any other tips?

Sounds like turning food half way through is a great idea.

We do have the "other cooking equipment" section where it makes sense to post air fryer info and pressure cookers and the like................. :)

I am new to this Air Fryer stuff but this is what I have learned about turning the food.
Cornish Hen            turning required half way though.
Six pound chicken   turning required half way through.
Egg rolls                no turning required but maybe a stir or shake.
French Fries           no turning required but maybe a stir or shake.
Bake potato            no turning required.

This does depend on the model as some heat from both top and bottom.

I learned the hard way not to spray with canola oil or any other type spray oils except olive oil. The canola oil for some reason seems to help "char" the skin on chicken and chops. Olive oil does not do this on things like chicken, etc.  I have an olive oil mister that I use now.

I picked up two cans of spray olive oil from trader Joe's. That should work

As Pam said try it first.
I have only used canola oil in aerosol can so far in the 7 cooks I have done and all work well.
A mister came with the unit but I have not filled it up yet.

Tonight is light eating so we will be doing some egg rolls and Pigs in the Blanket.

PS After reading what Pam said about aerosol cans I thought I better do some research and the following is some of what I found.
"While you can buy oil sprays in cans, sometimes there are aerosol agents in those cans that can break down the non-stick surface on your air fryer basket. So, if you want to spray foods directly in the basket, invest in a hand-pumped kitchen spray bottle. It will be worth it!"

OK so I am going to fill up our spayer. :)

Add one more to the Air Fryer Crew.  I just went to Sam's and bought one.  The learning curve begins.

Their supply of the Walnut Oil was looking pretty low.  Glad I was able to pick up three cans.

When "frying " fish or shrimp I mix 3/4 panko bread crumbs with 1/4 flour.
Dip in egg milk mixture , coat with breading , spray with PAM ( I've had no problems in over a year)
I've tried mixing the breading with oil , works a little better but defeats some of the advantages
