Title: A late ham
Post by: drholly on April 12, 2015, 09:43:31 PM
Didn't get to do a ham for Easter - but did get to take advantage of the sales! 99 cents a pound for a decent ham. Slathered with CYM and some FS&B and Pig Candy - it seemed like the sweetness would be a nice touch - and it was!

Put it on my mystery smoker this afternoon with some hickory and maple - just smelled good together. About 7.5#. Thought it would be about 3 hours - was actually closer to 4.5 (had to explain to women folk about it's done when it's done...)  ;) ;D

Added some corn and some scalloped potatoes. Made some very simple cheese & bacon biscuits. A big glass of very cold milk. Although a bit late, a very nice dinner. Looking forward to some soup and sandwiches this week!

Dang, I am sorry. But I promised the company that was doing the test I would not say who they were. I could post cooks, but had to keep their name out of it. It HAS been a long time, and they have not commercialized it (not sure why not - I love it!) I've sent the product manager (who may or may not be there anymore) a note asking permission to talk about it.

But in reality, it is an electric smoker - has an easy to use water tray and smoke box. 5 shelves - Bradley racks fit easily - that's what I use. You can set temp and time on a digital pad - holds the temp very close over many hours even in the winter.

Talking with my brother last night - while I appreciate the burning of coals and wood - given my life, kids, wife, laziness, etc....  ;) ;) this just makes sense.

Thanks for looking.

I'll be right over to remove it from your kitchen.

I like maple smoke for smoked sausage a lot, so I bet that Hickory/Maple combo smelled and tasted great on that ham.

Oh boy it did. The original smoke (per the label) was hickory. The additional hickory with the added maple added just a nice sweet touch of smoke (the FS&B and Super Pig helped as well!) - my family does not like big smoke and this was just right. Both the dog (Roscoe) and I just sat outside and smelled the smoke - it was very nice. I normally am a pecan smoke guy, but this was very nice. It was funny to watch Roscoe keep sticking his nose toward the vents on the smoker and "sniffing" the smoke...  ;D

That looks delicious !    You could just put some tape over the name on that smoker.... We wouldn't figure it out...

Oh heck!

OK - It was a Char Broil experiment. I had one of the original vertical electric smokers - Pam has one too. We both suffered through the original problem with the door. This one is SOLID! I love it. Much different from the original - more "heft", easy to use, the door works, it is a super smoker. They originally talked about a $199 price point - I would have snapped that up in a heart beat.

It is leak free, easy to use and makes good food. If they asked for it back I would offer to pay to keep it. They should commercialize it. It may be a manufacturing / cost issue because it is so much better than what they offer right now. Tried to talk with the product manager but, he is gone two times over... too bad...

Lucky me! I love this smoker.
