Title: Char-Griller Kamado Controlled by Rock's Stoker
Post by: Savannahsmoker on June 26, 2013, 03:28:37 PM
I installed my Stoker 5 CFM blower on my Akorn doing the following.
Cut a piece of stainless steel to fit the slide.
Drilled four holes to match the Stoker Blower.
Notch the blower to fit the slide.
Bolted the steel to the blower with 4ea #4 x 40 ss bolts.
Mounted in the slide from the left side.

I have the Char- Griller Smokin' Stone but I was not using a heat deflector in the above.
I have sealed the top, bottom vent and the ash pan

This is way too high tech for me to have any clue what it's all about but I know that it's something way cool (that I wish I had) because there are all those wires and gauges and connectors and graphs and things and LA (who understands such things) likes it.  Great job, sav!

Since I RTV sealed the top and bottom vent and the also the ash pan and main unit with nomex tape I wanted to check charcoal usage.

I added 2 pounds of Royal Oak Lump, installed the Smoking Stone and let Rock's Stoker run the temp of the Char-Griller Kamado.

Under very windy stormy conditions and me still learning vent settings it lasted 6 hours and 10 minutes.

Left over to add to the next cook.

BTW, I am still learning how to use the vents while using the Stoker. ???
Any advice or hints would be appreciated.

Now that would work very well in a Northern Winter.

Thanks for posting

I would believe so because of the installation.
I have had it run for 38 hours at 220 on a load before closing it down.

This cooker is almost too insulated!
I start with about 5 lbs charcoal & add 2-3 / cook.
Takes very little airflow to run 250F
With out stoker run top vent on 2 & bottom on 1/4 .
I'd try top vent on 2 to start.
