In addition to my jerky cannon (for my introduction into the wide world of sausage making and meat curing) I got another box from the post office!
Drumroll.... aaaannnnd....
BOOM !!! Forty more meat chickens!
These are a different variety than we normally get, they grow a little slower than the Cornish Cross variety that are most common. Which means they will take a little longer to get to size, but they're less prone to health issues because they don't grow so crazy fast. (Sorry, Smoker Pete, no Godzilla chickens this go-round!!)
They're already more active and chipper than the C.C. variety, they tucked right into the food and water, and are running about like crazy.
Also since they'll be 'coming of age' right in the middle of winter here in a couple months, I'm going to have a local facility do the processing for me, rather than butchering all by my lonesome like I usually do.
