RECENT SITE OUTAGE EXPLANATION
« Reply #-1 on: December 13, 2020, 04:51:17 PM »
I swear I paid the light bill folks.... ;D

Actually - we had a software crash. Has not happened before. Previous and comparatively brief outages were caused by our hosting service performing "pre-failure" maintenance - which was removing and replacing hard drives which were at the end of their life cycle. This time, because it was not the hosting service - we did not have a back up of the site that was recent -as in - same day. So - it took a couple of days and multiple phone calls - but finally the hosting service was able to get us re-booted. I have purchased a daily backup service now - so that should we ever experience any outage again, we have a current copy of all the posts and will not lose anything. So - if you had post that were made between Dec. 3 and today - please re-post them.

Thanks
T

It was a scare for me, because I really did not know HOW it could have happened. But, I suppose  - we are back and that is good. ;D

Yeah, right. I can barely remember what I had for breakfast this morning. Just credit me with a dozen or so brilliantly pithy comments and we'll call it even.

On a serious note, how much of this is due to needing upgrades with the software the forum runs on?  Are we fully up to date on the latest?

https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=571067.0

Note the latest stable is 2.0.17 (2020) and down below it is indicated that we are on 2.0.3 (2012) still.  Are you sure we did not get hacked due to a known vulnerability that was patched in a later revision?

I just figured that someone posted a link to a NY Post article and either Dorsey or Zuckerberg had clamped down on us . . . . . .
