Wish They Still Made This

Smoke saw a pic & wanted info & first time i had to take pics
This is a New Braunfels smoker/grill, no longer made & really havnt seen anything like it.
The hunting camp bought one it's about 10-12 years old & I bought one for my own use about 6 years ago.
The main cooking area is 36inX 16in. When smoking it has a secondary smoking rack of 32X15.
For grilling it has heavy duty cast iron grates, a adjustable height charcoal rack.
When offset smoking the firebox is below the main chamber & the baffle turns it into a reverse flow.
Runs about a 25F-35F temp differential from one end to the other.

Entrance from firebox into main chamber

Baffle over firebox heat entrance

Yeah LA - I think Brinkman (?) makes one like that now....But it is so cheaply made that I would not buy it. The handle on the crank feels like it will break if you try to turn it.
BBQ is neither verb or noun. It is an experience.

New Braunfels made a nice product.  The quality went away when they were bought out.

Same can be said about Oklahoma Joe's.  Tejas and Gator Pits have some models similar to LA's pit with the fire box underneath and sitting dead center...if you want to spend around 2 grand!!

LA's pit has some characteristics of the CB's Bandera smoker the way the air control is set up on the fire box and those cooking grates and charcoal grate look like they came out of the CB940X!!

I bet this one is made with way heavier metal and I love the dual thermometers.

That is a sweet rig LA....take good care of it and don't let me find out where you keep it stored  ::) :D ::) ;D

With my present charcoal basket 14X 11X 4 in ( a modified SS veggie basket ) I can get a 5-6 hour burn.
I can fashion a 13 X 13 X 5.5  in basket out of 24 X 24 in sheet of expanded metal.
It'll hold 1.6 times the charcoal.
Should push me to the magic sleep through the nite burn of 8 hours ;D
