Butter Chicken
« Reply #-1 on: January 12, 2014, 07:32:46 PM »
When I'm at work the food is usually bland and I'm looking for something to jump start my taste buds. I'm not a big fan of heat but I have taken a fancy to East Indian food of over the years. Two foods I'm crazy for are Butter Chicken and Chicken tikka masala. Today for the first time I'm attempting the dangerous Butter Chicken :)

I was not able to find all the ingredients but I did my best. Thankfully as smokers we have lots of time and were not afraid to take the time to do it right.

Here is the recipe I used, http://norecipes.com/blog/butter-chicken-recipe/

Ok let's go,
I missed a photo of putting the marinade together. Marinade and chicken into a plastic bag and into the fridge over night. Sleep tight.

The next day getting everything ready,

Cookem down, dang starting smell good,

Blended the tomatoes and tomato paste and into the pan. Here is the start,

Here is the finish. This is VERY messy (my wife said). The idea here is to boil off the liquid and caramelize the tomatoes. I took a longer time to do this, low heat until the tomatoes would not burp so much. The you can crank up the heat,

Chicken before cooking,

Sorry #1351, couple of more months before I break you out again :(. Going on gas today,

Recipe says to get some colour. Did my best to pull at 150F,

Blend up your nuts and water to make a milk,

Add that back the caramelized tomatoes, blend in well and strain ???. This takes time,

Chicken and gravy back into the pan,

The plate with rice,

All in all I like it a lot. Gravy could be a touch thicker. Flavour was real good but I will look for a couple of ingredients I could not find.

Thanks for viewing ;D

Looks distinctly Indian, and the spices list is impressive.  I started eating vindaloo some years ago, and the spice won me over to Indian food.

That dish looks thick, rich, and savory - excellent

Oh yeah! Butter chicken is awesome.. always wanted to try to make it.. now I think I will. What ingredients were you missing? We have a few East Indian stores in the area so I'm sure I will be able to gather all I need.

T, there is 3 tablespoon of butter. I added it to the strained gravy.

Scally, no Indian stores where I live,

Ingredients missing,
saffron , black cardamom, fenugreek leaves (qasuri methi)

To get the gravy thicker I should have reduced it a bit more but over all my wife liked it so I will be doing it again.
