The manual says to put just above the food. Is this what everyone does? With my maverick I use to put it just below the food.

You want the probe to be on a close level with the meat. Or whatever you're smoking. Lower or higher will give you possible false readings

I usually put it below the meat or at a spot even with the meat. The thought is that it will get a better reading not being covered by the meat. Just make sure it is in a spot that won't get dripped on.
