How is your temps with the dowmdraft on?. I always heard that the dowmdraft system messes with your temps in the GMG?. What was your reason for getting it Jaxon?. How was your grill running before you got the dowmdraft?

I've had this grill for about 7 weeks.  I used it for ribs pretty quick.
After reading so many reviews, I thought I should do something to keep temps in line.  That's when talked with H O S  for his suggestions. Right away he recommended the downdraft and I got one.
I was getting anal about temps being all over and noticed that the smoke flavor wasn't there.
Since installing it, I find temps to be almost the same end to end & there is much more of that thin blue smoke coming out of the chimney.
Now, I don't worry about temps.
B T W, those ribs I did yesterday in the video turned out great..I wish you could have been here to taste 'em.
Just sayin'...

I used the downdraft hoods in a Boone and a Bowie for Simi Pellet Grills when we were pellet testing and the GMG grills work great with them installed.

I have a Green Mountain Daniel Boone and was thinking about getting this downdraft after reading positive comments. I asked Green Mountain Grills about it, and here was their answer:

It is never recommended to add modifications that impact airflow as it can damage your unit. Our adjustable heat shield is the correct tool for customizing/balancing the heat inside the grill. We are familiar with the downdraft and have seen many independent tests online that point to a negative impact from manipulating airflow. At this point this device will void your warranty. If you would like to see some tests, I would talk to Jim Olson in the “Green Mountain Grill Owners” Facebook group.

I am not concerned about warranty as my grill is over 8 years old and still going strong.  Just wondered what others think who have this item?

I have downdrafts in my GMG Davy Crockett and Blaz'n Grillworks Grid Iron. They do definitely help stabilize the temperatures across the grill and I get a lot better smoke. As far as I am concerned anything that helps keep the smoke at grate level is a plus!

I believe what Mike and Jaxon said about the downdraft on the Daniel Boone, but I am still on the fence.  I would like to see some more testimonials from others who are using this to success or not.  Thanks for any input.

I'm also on the fence on this application.

I have a Davy Crockett & a Jim Bowie, and they both keep even temps (within 5-6°) from end to end.
As far as the smoke, I get plenty of good smoke taste so I'm not sure why I need to spend the extra money.

But please, tell me why I should.  :) :)
