Title: Driving Up To Northern GA
Post by: nepas on July 25, 2013, 10:43:14 PM
So when we drive to visit my wifes mom in Hartwell we drive by this little road side eating joint.

Yesterday we stopped, Talked to the owner who said Finleys has been here in Livonia, GA for 43 years and the food stand has been in this spot since 1973. She told us all the food is made fresh, ground chuck daily and so on.

We take tiffy with us.

I ordered a chili burger and fries.

Best damn chili burger i had in years.

So today we are in Dillard, GA and go to this buffet at the Dillard house.

Damn

Reminds me of Amish style family buffet.

The food was very good. They bring you enuff food for the number of people eating and if you want more they just keep bringing food out.
Stuffed tomatoes were awesome.

How many buffets do you know of that let you take food home?

Just before they bring out dessert they bring out 3 boxes and say take whatever you want.

Oh yeah. lunch for tomorrow

Oh, yeah, the Dillard House is one of the TOP family style restaurants in the state. Been there a few times... About 3 1/2 hours from here. They had us seated with several folks we didn't know and started bringing out the food and piling it on the table. We all passed it around. We never ran out of food. We got to meet some mighty nice folks around those tables.

Is it still done that way?

What a great find.  It's a shame we do take more time to travel the back roads to the small towns.  I'm so guilty of wanting to get on the interstate and get where I'm going rather than taking the longer way and enjoying the journey.  The sad thing is when I'm in a hurry to get back home I really don't have anything going on that could not have waited while I took the time to enjoy the journey.  Dee

Not sure if they do. This was my 1st visit but my wifes 2nd.

Here is the dining room.

Looks like good eats.

Every time we drive north up I-59 toward TN we pass through a little corner of GA and we always stop at the Rising Fawn exit for gas and to buy some lottery tickets. A couple of years ago we asked if there was a good place for lunch and they directed us to the Depot Cafe and we went there and had an excellent meat and three lunch. Last week when we drove up to Huntersville NC to visit my son and grandbaby we stopped in and ate again. The cafe is in the old railroad depot building and this time of year everything is fresh grown garden veggies. The guy that brings your food is dressed in full blown cowboy gear with boots, chaps, hat and guns, strange but cool.  We were the only people in the place who were not regular locals so we got a lot of special attention. The owner followed us out to the car and told us how much he appreciated us coming in. My kind of place.
