Calamari Steaks
« Reply #-1 on: February 28, 2018, 01:26:13 PM »
Calamari steaks are the poor man's substitute for abalone.  The abalone is now mostly farmed and around $75.00/#.  These steaks I bought for around $7.00/# and are very good.

Tenderized, patted dry, and ready to season and prepair.

Flour, egg wash, panko crumbs, S&P.

Into the CI skillet with 4tbs OO, 2 tbs butter, juice of 1 lemon, 1 clove minced garlic, on med heat .

After about 2 min/side, plated with buttered new potatoes, and a side of mixed lettuce salad.  Tender and good taste.

Never heard of them, but love calamari.  Looks really good.

Since you mentioned "poor man's" food if you have a chance to try monkfish, give it a whirl, nickname is poor man's lobster.

I've heard of it, but never actually seen any for sale.
I too love calamari, and would love to try the steaks.
Looks like you got the right amount of breading on those & they look great.

I love calamari, matter of fact we have a date night where we go out and "cheat on one good thing"   and calamari is at the top of the list!

I need to look for these, where might I find them?

Tommy, it may be a Left Coast thing, but most of the markets around here have the steaks.  They are from squid.  When you do find them, be sure to not overcook or they will be very tough.
