Roasted Coffee Anyone?
« Reply #-1 on: August 15, 2018, 11:45:27 AM »
Not sure if this is correct forum or not. I got the bug to roast my own coffee from another smoking forum the other day. I did some fresh green Kona coffee beans yesterday and had good luck with them. I got 4 pounds of certified Kona beans for around 44$. If you know Kona coffee, that's a going price for a pound of roasted coffee beans.

Here's my setup

I'm still learning. First two roasts were to the second crack. I did one today and pulled the beans just before the full second crack. Both were very good, but I'm thinking I'm doing about 4-5 minutes after the first crack next time

Awesome! I bought one of theses baskets last year...and have been too lazy to try it. Glad to see that it works well. PLEASE keep us up to speed on what you learn about roasting our own coffee like this  ( I have a 1 lb. coffee roaster - but the smell in the basement works it's way into the house...and domestic tranquility is put at risk... ;) :D

I would think it may work with charcoal....but you would have to have a way to really manage the temps closely.

I don't think I would care for charcoaled roasted coffee. I want the taste of the coffee beans not enhanced with any wood burning
