New Stuffer
« Reply #-1 on: May 02, 2016, 10:21:19 PM »
Reaching up to crank the 5lb LEM was hurting my shoulders. Talked to the boss about a new stuffer, she said find one you like. Wanted the Cabelas 11lb with the motor but found again that the motor has been discontinued for malfunction reasons. Did a search on my fav place (Amazon) and found a horizontal 7lb. I looked at it for weeks at a price of $138, couple days later they posted the same model but all SS for $149. Got good reviews and they are based in Calif and PA. So for the price i ordered it.

I was worried about sharp edges and parts not fitting right. When i got it i was shocked at the workmanship.

Very light on the packing grease and it cleaned up very nice. No sharp edges, piston looks great with the O ring (i did order an extra) just in case.

It has 2 speeds with all metal gears, shafts and gear box which can all be replaced.

Came with 4 SS tubes.

So i mixed up 7lbs of Owens BBQ SS mix and went to stuffing.

Flat bottom with very minimal meat waste.

Now to the smoker.

Pros

Great value, easy to crank
Sits nice and flat no wobbles
All SS
Spring air valve on piston

Cons

You will see in the pic before the chubs that i have the wraps on the rubber feet? Why they did not make these to stay in place i do not know as when you pick up the stuffer the feet fell off  ???

No stop for the shaft so you gotta know when to stop the piston (really no biggie)

Don't hold 7lbs, more like 6 3/4 until you put the meat into the tube.
You have to take the tube off to reload the canister (no biggie)

Now i just gotta talk the boss into a Rec Tec mini  :D :D :D :D

I may have the same stuffer.  I like mine, too.  I just haven't used it lately.

Nice looking horizontal stuffer, Rick.   Can you put a sharpie mark on the plunger rod to indicate "bottom" point.  That's what I do on my vertical 5lb Northern Tool model with the Nylon gears. Nothing like a visual aid to tell you to watch the crank pressure as you approach the chamber bottom.  I would think it matters even more with a dual speed model as you could get more torque in the low gear?

Ok, Dumb question?. What is the difference between a vertical vs horizontal stuffer.

Ok, Damn question?. What is the difference between a vertical vs horizontal stuffer.

The vertical has a 90 degree bend at the bottom where the casing tube attaches and the horizontal lays flat with a straight shot into the tube. I'm assuming that makes it easier to crank.
