Title: Weber Performer Silver
Post by: RAD on September 28, 2014, 07:55:03 AM
Yesterday was my BD and we typical tell each other to get what we want. I've stopped trying to figure out what jewelry or perfume she wants years and years ago and she does the same for me when it comes to what I want. Some years we don't get anything and others we get something that we have been looking at. This year I've been wanting a weber. I went to HD thinking about the 18.5 and left with the silver, it is my BD after all.  8)

more to follow as I put it together and break it in.  ;D

Happy birthday, Rad.!!

I like the gifting system y'all have set up.  And it looks like you picked out a nice gift for that special someone. I think you'll really enjoy the Weber.  I can't wait to see how you load that thing up.

Enjoy your day!

Years of good cooking ahead for you.

Take a sharpie and mark full open and closed on the ash pot. Makes life a lot easier

Not sure I understand. Isn't all the way to the left closed and all the way to the right full open?

Somebody posted a pic of the sharpie idea. I like it because I usually can't see what I call the fins. So I use the lever in a narrower range then full left and right.

Hay RAD, first off, great score for your BD.  If you haven't cooked on the Weber Kettle, you're gonna LOVE it.  Plus there are plenty of guys (gals) here tp help out if you have any questions.

Second, actually, on my One-Touch, my vents are actually full open with the lever less than halfway across.  So, by making the pot, I'm always sure exactly how open they are.

I have a dedicated "cooking" umbrella strapped to one of the posts on my deck.  So unless we get a repeat of Hurricane Hugo . . . .

Looks like you've got a good start on those ribs ! ! !

do you guys clean and rinse after each use? With my CB Fatboy I always clean it after each use because I am concerned about the ash causing it to rust.

The porcelain coating is very rust resistant
Most people just dump the ash catcher every few cooks

The only other thing that I've come across is that, if I haven't pushed my ashed down into the catcher, they can end up blocking the bottom vents and choke off the coals.  If you notice that your fire seem to be slowing down, and you've got the vent all the way open, slide it back and forth a few time to allow some of the ash to drop into the catcher.  Then reset the vent to whatever setting needed to bring the fire back up.

Happy Birthday!
I agree on marking the catch can. Haven't gotten around to it yet, but I will soon. In my personal opinion, the ash catch can is worth the $50 premium over the OTS (mine is just the OTG, not Performer).

I just open my bottom vents all the way and take an old stiff paint brush and brush all the ash into the catcher.

Did some burgers. Nothing fancy, just some GSP, cheese and toasted bread on the Weber.

Sam's has them all of the time around here and are called short ribs. I usually avoid them because of my experience with beef ribs but these were very meaty. And the SL ribs were some of my best.

Well, I'll look for them the next time I'm at Sam's.  I haven't had much luck with beef ribs either.

Thanks for the tip!
