Title: PTG Tri-Tip
Post by: muebe on November 12, 2012, 09:14:00 PM
Started with a frozen Tri-Tip seasoned with Instant Gourmet Original...

Put the PID on the PTG in manual mode at 10% power. That resulted in a 180F temp range and constant output of smoke...

I put the Tri-Tip on while frozen. I had to bump up the PID up to 12% power to maintain the same 180F temp range due to the cold from the Tri-tip robbing heat...

After a few hours the IT of the Tri-Tip reached 100F. I then bumped up the temp on the PID in automatic mode to 500F and gave the meat a 15 minute sear...

After a 20 minute rest it was on to slicing...

Plated with Mac N Cheese and Hawaiian rolls...

Sure Sparky!

First head to the store. Then pick up a box of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Homestyle ;)

I actually have a really good recipe for macaroni and cheese but this was just the Homestyle this time!

I don't think tri-tip can get any better looking than that. Muebe Muebe, we're not worthy.  8)

Again, just awesome. I have got to break down and try to cook a tri-tip now that I have found a source in Alabama, but your cooks are pretty intimidating.

Alright muebe , getting the new cooker where you want it!
The frozen cook, on purpose to get more smoke without overcooking or just in a hurry.
I'll often cook thin steaks frozen butt never have done a thick piece of meat.

Kinda of both. It is quicker to thaw and you can get extra smoke flavor without overcooking ;)

Muebe... Really looks great and cooked to perfection.  Even though Original is special, try the next one with Awake-a-Steak for perfection.  Smile!  Phil
