What is your favorite wood for smoking?
« Reply #14 on: June 04, 2012, 12:04:53 PM »
I just ordered 120lbs of cookingpellets perfect mix. Free shipping. They are all out of hickory.
Thanks to Squirt for the heads up on the  deal. I can only get Traeger pellets where I'm at. At that I have to have them shipped to my brothers house about 30 miles away to get the free shipping. I believe the Traeger pellets are mixed with alder.

I concur with you Hub. We in the East typically only get the Oak based pellets I suppose  unless one buys Treager pellets - which I think use Alder as a base. And -

I asked about your place of origin because I come from West Texas, then East Tx/La. Love the Central Tx and Ks City styles of BBQ. But - like you I have come to appreciate the Carolinas styles of cooking as well.

I love the Cookinpellets Perfect Mix.   That's all I've been burning for a couple months now.   I'm not that far from Racine, so I can get it shipped down for a reasonable price..

Never used them, squirt let me know about how much he likes them. For $5 total drive out, I'm getting these shipped to my house. They are 100% wood no fillers.

No messy wood ???  Some of the  best BBQ that I've had came out of a stick burner in Laredo Tx :o. That stuff grows like weeds everywhere down there. Home made mesquite charcoal is the $hi+ ;D
I mainly use pecan, hickory, maple and apple. I would like to try peach and
Cherry. I see that on your list. :)

On the UDS or Chubby, ribs and butts? Peach. Brisket? Oak and mesquite. Chuck roasts and chicken? Cherry.   Pellet grill? 100% hickory, if I can find it. Tried most of the pellet flavors.

It all works.
