A few years ago my wife Jan and I developed a Rub recipe. Some folks have tried it and seem to like it. I thought I would share the recipe with you. Some folks on this forum are experienced with it. I'll let them tell you if they like it or not.
Jan’s Dry Rub
1 cup + 4 tbsp sugar
¼ cup Seasoned salt
¼ cup garlic salt
¼ cup + 1 ½ tsp celery salt
¼ cup onion salt
2 tsp celery seed
½ cup paprika
3 tbsp chili powder
2 tbsp black pepper
1 tbsp lemon powder
2 tsp sage
1 tsp dry mustard
½ tsp ground thyme
½ tsp cayenne

Apparently unlike cats, turtles don't eat bricks, but Jan's is a great all-around rub for those things that we do eat. We also like the spicier version (which I'm sure Mr. Jan KyNola will post forthwith or hereafter or soon or something).

Unless I missed something, Hey there, Larry. Love the Jan's. As you know, i put it on lots of stuff. Popcorn, last night mother-in-laws chicken Mac and cheese she dropped off (needed some help) shhhhh :). I even eat it with plain white rice with butter. Its goooooood!!

Yes Jan's Rub is fantastic ;)

Jan's rub is really good. The hot version (mixed by Nepas) is pretty good, also.

Thanks for sharing.. gonna make myself a batch of this!

The rub sounds good... what's the "hot" version?

I will try some. Can I substitute all the salt stuff like Onion garlic etc. w/o salt or would that interupt the balance. I try to cut back on some salt. Phil
-
It's great on roasted nuts like almonds. Mmmmm.
-
I was wonder the same thing... regular spice instead of the spiced salt

I generally do exactly that (use a lesser amount of granulated garlic instead of garlic salt, etc.) and it comes out pretty good. If I don't make a spicier version, it's a bit sweet that way so I also cut back on some of the sugar (but not much).
I don't guess it's "Jan's Rub" anymore but it seems to work (and I felt okay about no longer sending the exorbitant licensing fees to KyNola. Here's hoping he doesn't sue me for patent infringement).

is there a lower sodium jans rub. can't do to much salt.

Hey it made Kimmie's chicken taste great! :D
That's saying something! ;)
-
For the seasoned salt I use Lawrys Lower sodium, it's only lower by 25%, but it helps. We like it A LOT!
-
Just an interesting note. Jan's seasoning is very much like Instant Gourmet's Original. Minus the salt and the mustard. Very close. Smile
