Title: Fire Butler looks promising - video
Post by: Jaxon on December 02, 2015, 11:05:47 AM
I may hafta order on of these for my kettle...

I think DRHolly would like it, too, with his flair for the hibachi.

That DOES look interesting. I am in negotiations with my brother to purchase my Blackstone... I don't use it enough and could use the deck space. This looks like a potential replacement.

In the video they ARE using a Weber...it's a 26" with another accessory - a stainless steel hinge that locks in the open position.  I don't know where they got it.

Woo-hoo!

Easy setup into the Weber (you can watch their video for that).  Got a good set on the charcoal and put the hibachi on to preheat.  Then I coated it with lard - yes, lard is what I use for seasoning CI, etc. - and let it go for a while.

Just for fun, I put the cooking grate on and cooked up some wangs...no pics.

The official BYJ video will be ready soonly.  I wanna be sure I'm doing it right and there IS a short learning curve.

For now, lemme just say...well, hang on...I'll get a video ready.

Thanks for your patience.

Yesterday, I received the F B (short for Fire Butler) and of course, I HAD to try it out.  I decided to install it and season it.  Had plenty of hot coals going on, so after seasoning, I lined the hibachi with foil, put the grate in and cooked 15 wings.

If you looked at the video that Old Dave initially posted, you can see how it sits inside the Weber.  By now most of you have seen the video with the "cook lady" using the hibachi feature.

I haven't had time and weather to cook up a video, but about those wings yesterday...the cook was similar to infrared cooking because the hibachi was HOT.  I wasn't cooking directly on it but the wings caught the heat and were cooked almost perfectly.

Bottom line is this: I am very excited about using the F B in the Weber and I'm already looking for to cooking ribs therein low and slow.  It can be used as a gravity fed device or you can start the fire on top of the pile and let it burn downward.  You can cook it HOT - my IR thermogun measured 479* on the hibachi - or you can dial it back for low temp extended cooks.
I have cooked with it ONCE and already I can see the potential for a number of cooking techniques.

B T W, The guy who invented this is Troy.  I have talked with him several times this week and he is extremely friendly and eager to answer questions and listen to feedback.  He is VERY passionate about the Fire Butler because he USES it all the time.

I am not a paid representative of this product, however, I intend to enjoy the benefits of ownership by being able to be more versatile on the kettle.

Oh, and another thing...I would like to make a very important announcement concerning the Fire Butler.
I would LIKE to, but I can't at this time.

Stay tuned...

The original Facebook video shows a version for the Weber 22.5 and one for the 26.75.  So the first thing would be a size issue.

They did mention a future version for the Akorn, so, who knows?

My goodness, just after purchasing the pellet, this item surfaces. Watched a few videos on setup, one which shows covering the hibachi with foils to shield infrared during a slow cook; what happens to all the drippings from the meat? I could foresee a total mess...
