Title: Pizza
Post by: boyer513 on March 01, 2016, 09:52:13 AM
Tried one this weekend after I did my ribs......................holy cow it was fantastic.  Bought a pizza stone from Cabelas and used premade crust then loaded it up with all the fixings needed.  It was gone before the ribs at my house and that's saying a lot.

If your on the fence don't be and just do it.

I forgot to take pictures................. >:(

Sounds good.

I like preheating my stone, but I had trouble sliding the pizza on it.  I didn't think to use gloves and lift the grill grate out and then slide the pizza on. Did you preheat the stone?

Also sorry, had to add this because I was there with pretty much the same view, without being zoomed in of course....

I like PBC pizza as well! I used to use a pizza stone but switched to using a metal pan, the type with holes in the bottom. Picked up a couple of 16"  pans at Walmart for about $12. Very pleased with how crispy the crust gets and the fact that you don't have to preheat. Just assemble the pie on the pan and set it on the grill. When the pizza is done I usually find it easier to pick up the grate, pan and all, with heavy duty gloves and set it on my stove top. It's easier than trying to pick up just the pan.

i have done a decent amount of pizza cooks on the pbc and from reading on the pizza forum on this website i learned that high heat is the key.  thus i keep the lid cracked the entire cook.  if you have a loaded basket you can maintain temps in the 400's and that works quite well.  i used the same pizza stone noah used in his cooks which is the emile henry (spelling) stone.  its pricey but boy i have never had a pizza cook stick and ive done probably about 8 or so.  ive dusted it with a little bit of flour and the pizza comes off easily.  if you are worried about wasting a bunch of coal i usually finish off my cooks with some red potatoes and i have potatoes for the work week.  so its a win win!!!

I tried a pizza on my pbc about a year ago. It has been the only thing to date that didn't turn out good. The crust turned out tasting like a piece of charcoal.  Any clue what happened? Been wanting to try one  again.
