Title: Our Halloween 2016
Post by: Smokin Don on October 28, 2016, 11:32:33 PM
Oct 27 2016

Last night was trick or treat night here in Wapakoneta Ohio. My wife has dressed up in costume and sat out on the porch to hand out the treats for over 30 years now. The kids get a kick out of her being dressed up too.

I think the only year she missed was when she got her new knees and I sat out that year. It is much easier than answering the door since we usually have about 200 or more. They are allowed to come from 6:00 PM until 7:30.

Over the years she has dressed as a clown, a witch, a man, a butterfly and I don’t remember all. She does the witch pretty good! :) This year she used some of my stuff from my black powder shooting days as a pioneer lady. She wore my beaver hat, a scrimshawed neckless and powder horn, leather shooting bag and wooden canteen. She had a deerskin shirt to wear but it was too cold, she could not get it over a sweatshirt.

Grandson Gavin came down to help her hand out the treats.  It was too cold so we didn’t have many they came in at 7:00 and said they were done. I think my chocoholic wife is happy we had a lot of candy left!

200 Kids  wow.....In NY my mom would have no kids show up & here in CT We average about 10 a year but last year we had none. The northeast is just so scared of poison candy, Etc Etc Etc.

Sad when I was a kids in NY we would have from 20 to 40 kids......those days are over

There are a few cluster houses that do well but not 200 good for you......They also R & T at the mall but I don't see any fun in that.

When my Grandmother was alive she would give out fresh donuts from our bakery.......Kids would lineup for those donuts a real treat way from just candy LOL

Yea some yrs. it has been like a street party and I thought about doing brats or hot dogs but too much for me to get a grill around front. I grew up in a small town of 1200 people so we went all over town but as we got a little older we knew the homes that had the best treats. One lady gave out large popcorn balls with a candy cane stuck in them. Don
