It is too hot to do anything outside and I was wondering how all got their user name (handle). Some look like a good story!
Mine came natural after smoking a lot of food and also cigarettes, please no preaching, I am not proud of it. I have been smoking since about 12 and I'm 71 now, a lot of years. I am afraid to quit, most I know who did seem to fall apart and get other problems or died from it anyway. I don't think my body would know what to do without the nicotine.
Just tell your story if you will! Smokin Don

When I joined the CharBroil forum (very 1st cooking forum for me) I just use my initials. Didn't think of any neat names at the time.
Been TMB for so long I hate to change , folks may not know me ;D ;D
-
Seriously? "Ka Honu" is Hawaiian for a green sea turtle. I'm a green sea turtle in Hawaii.
-
Im a locksmith and my coworkers call me the keymaster . I have lots of keys :)

Co-worker started calling me Pappy about 20 years ago instead of Patrick......stuck ever since.
-
First handle ever had. Like to fish so tried Fishing and it was taken so added some of last name and it wasn't taken. Been using it now for 20 years.

Just how I feel till Lana gets moving again.

I couldn't think of anything "catchy", so I went with my initials. Yes, I am the 3rd.

I just wanted to describe myself perfectly. (no, not really)
Actually, several years ago I had a few questions about infrared cooking and found the Sizzle on the Grill website. I liked CB's handle thinking that it meant CharBroil and not knowing that it actually meant Chef Barry . I wanted to keep with the theme of the website so I chose IR (meaning InfraRed). The 2dum just described myself perfectly. (really)......and besides, the name "Ka Honu" was all ready taken.

There just so happens to be 5 tenpoint whitetail deer racks on the walls and shelves in my office. Still waiting for number 6 to come along.

Got this one with the truck. Should have seen the Sherrif's face when we dropped the tailgate to put him in and there was 6 more laying back there!

This was my very first antlered deer on my 2nd year bow hunting. He's not the biggest but he still went on the wall!

I do not know what it is, maybe my scent or something, but I have been absolutely plagued all my life with women. I just cannot keep them away from me, even at 70 years old. I don't know what it is. When I am in the supermarket, they just come up and ask me to reach for this or advice on a product. This happens everywhere I go. And, my wife sees this happening and she comes running right over and flashes her wedding ring and holds on to me. So my friends used say to me: "you old dog, you". And, this has been going on since high school. It's like a curse. When I was in uniform, it was even worse especially in dress blues. I can't explain it.
So, I have been called by my wife and some of my friends a "Very Old Dog". That is why I use this forum name.
Have a great day!

I paid my way through college as a bouncer and bartender back in the mid-90's ... right at the time NTN Trivia in bars was really picking up steam. Since I was (am?) a know-it-all I got in the habit of wagering on trivia games with customers and coworkers during the slow hours and needed an easy-to-remember screen name. The first half is the university I did my master's work at and the second half is my college fraternity ... easy peasy.

When I was growing up my Dad always had to have shirts with two pockets, one for his glasses and one for his cigarettes so one of my uncles always called him Two Pockets. When my wife and I started selling stuff on eBay years ago we were trying to come up with a handle and since in our house we had two types of money "our" money and "her" money I suggested TwoPockets and it stuck.
-
Mine requires some imagery and a bit of a sad story to explain...
One of my old cats - Squirt - was diagnosed with diabetes quite a few years ago. Cats (and dogs) use the same insulin that humans use, so I started getting my supplies at Walgreens. Talking with the pharmacist about this, they recommended a 'Prescription Savings Program' that is for non-insured members of the family - including pets.
So I get this card in the mail..
The name stuck. (we ended up losing him to cancer back in 2010, but 'SquirtTheCat' lives on)
He still gets mail from time to time! ;D

Coached my Daughters playing softball for 12 yrs and through 6 states...our team name was
"da Wreck'n Crew", tag was "Tearin' Up A Diamond Near You!". When Bady Gurl went off to play college ball and middle one decided Cheerleading was her thing. Dad retired from summers of spending thousands of dollars, driving thousands of miles and many nights at practice.... and was promptly bored silly! Tried Golf... love to play; but does not fuel my competitive nature. Have loved q'ing for years and decided that I was going to take up a little competitive cooking. So, da Wreck'n Crew..... became "da Wreck'n Q".

Boring story - On the first forum I signed up on I wanted to use something that I would remember. So I used my nickname. Gus is short for "August" which is my middle name.
-
My middle name is "Sue". My great grandfather was French, and he lived across the street from me. He would call me over by yelling, "Susie, Susie". (Suzeeeeee, Suzeeeee).
I Like having handles that have something to do with the message boards so I added "que".
I have a different name for each board I post on. Most of my handles relate to the forums but not all.
My pic was done like that because I was such a newb with the grill. I was terrified of the propane tank.
-
Gus is short for "August" which is my middle name.
same for me except its my 1st name. you Portuguese like me too? 8)

mikecorn.1
Nickname is mike and my wife's name is Corina. Her brothers call her Corn :o so I put them together. The .1 just came out of necessity when I made an email address many many years ago.

I found this forum after being on another forum for quite a while. For whatever reason when I tried to sign on to this one it wouldn't accept the info I was using on the other forum. Had to try something else, so guess what I was doing at the time all this happened....... Yep, and the chops came out great too.

initials and it's RADical, why not use it? ;)

I am a HUGE baseball fan (especially 19th century). "Sliding" Billy Hamilton was a star player in the late 1800s and is considered the man who revolutionized the stolen base. When Hotmail 1st was released, I needed an email address. My favorite player (and the man my oldest son is named after... his name is Adrian Constantine) is Cap Anson. capanson@hotmail.com was already taken, so I went with my second favorite player, Billy Hamilton. Been using sliding_billy in a lot of ways since then. Also, my grandfather's name was William even though he went by Clyde. I thought it a fitting way to pay my continued respect for the greatest man I ever knew.

I am not very creative. The first forum I ever visited to learn about cooking ribs (Pi Pirate BBQ), the moderator used his full name, so I used my real name as well. I carried that over to the Char broil forum. When I found this place, I tried to change it a bit, and used my initials instead. I kept my avatar of my deceased all time favorite Golden, since that way I get to see him every time I log on! I still rescue and still have Goldens at home, but he was very special.
-
I was a bit of a handfull when I was a child, always getiing into something and my Old School English grandmother always called me a wee Scallywag when she was scolding me. I am still a bit of a trouble maker ( gotta have some fun ) so I have always used that name in forums.
-
I know that those of you who have met me in person cannot understand why I don't have as my handle "STUD" or "STUDLY". Not wanting to cause others to have an inferiority complex nor have my inbox over loaded with PMs from hyperventilating, swooning ladies, I just slid together my nickname and last name. Dee
-
dee - Just a suggestion but with all the identity theft issues on the internet these days you might want to change your "handle" to something descriptive but not unique to you. "Photo King," "Lens Master," and "Old & Deluded" come to mind.
-
Pow! The Turtle gets the flag for unnecessary roughness ;)
-
I'm not very original, but I do use a can of Pam when I take forum pics. Good stuff. Pam .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ

Nope - Polish, French, and an vast assortment of others ( a mutt, not a purebred ;D)
-
My user name is pretty generic ... 1st forum was 'Bradley Smoker'. Since I was smokin' meat and my name is Peter I chose 'smoker pete'. Have used the same name with all the forums I've visited over the years ... 8)
Used to be ... (http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab105/papa_peter/BBQ%20Smoke/miscellaneous/smokinpig85.jpg) before I became ... (http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab105/papa_peter/1bc86336-c245-4fe4-8473-127cd86c857c_zpsc6b82bb4.jpg)

Always liked the picture of me smoking the Huka so when I joined the Bradley Smoker Forum thought it fit...added the Mo for Missouri...

My passion was sailing sail boats. Started sailing when I was 23 years old. Did some racing but mostly cruising but anytime another sail boat came along it turned into a race. Difference between a racer and a cruiser is the cruiser don't spill his beer ;D. Sold my boat when I moved to Florida and was going to buy another one but I quickly found out that the boats were cheaper in cost here but the storage and fees were way more than I could afford so that was the end of my owning a cruising boat. Joined a sailing club for a while but it was not the same as owning. As I got older I got into the radio controlled sail boats and did a lot of racing with them around the country. Now my time is taken up with smoking meats and making sausage and working. Long winded story to answer the question how did you get your handle. Sailboats still hold a special place in my heart just don't have the time to work on them and clean them and having friends go sailing and drink all my beer. ;D
-
No real special story here. Just used my initials on another forum and wanted something different with the change.
Had some guys over from work for a cookout and water volleyball game and someone called me the Grill Master.
(That's what happens when you feed them Baby Backs, Sausage, pulled pork, "E" Beans, and Pig Candy)
Not being comfortable claiming that title I did settle for EFGM, Etheridge Family Grill Master, which I am comfortable with. Not that there aren't some good cooks in my Family. I'm just the best backyard cook in the "E" Clan.

I had the same issue as IBCookin. Couldn't get on with the original name I was using on other forums. Thought I was banned before I got started. So, since I do a lot of cookin on the patio, I thought I'd use the name "PatioCook and "stay under the radar".
So far, so good.

Before I started posting in BBQ message boards I was looking for a handle with some reference to cooking. As I like chicken wings I thought Wing Commander (like the computer game - that I actually never have played in my life) would be a nice choice. Today I'd choose some other handle, but I use Wing Commander in several message boards and it's also my blog's name, so won't change it.
-
Some interesting stories here . . . and answers to some names I've wondered about.
Mine is quite simple. First three letters of my last name (I'm Gordon Hubbell in the funny papers).

The holidays are over for awhile, kids back in school, and some off to college.
Since I posted this we have a lot of new members and since I am not very good at welcoming you when you join; I welcome you now! The more the merrier! If you have an interesting story of how you got your user name let us hear it. If some of you older members missed this pop in now and tell your story!
I have read all now and there are some good stories here! Smokin Don
Maybe if there is some good responses I will tell the story of my nickname at work? I have been retired since 2003 after 30 yrs, at FordMoCo.

I'm a huge fan of Buffalo Wings and I always consume my share. On pellet grill forums I am Maineac.

tee square:
A guide used in mechanical and architectural drawing; consists of two arms joined together at right angles, like the letter T; the shorter arm slides along the edge of the drawing table or drawing board, which serves as a guide; the longer arm is used to draw parallel lines or to support triangles for drawing lines at different angles.
There is a lot of psycho-babble I could go into ...but....nah......

How do you follow that? lol
I have always been outdoorsy. Once I discovered backpacking, I was gone, a lot. I joined a few backpacking forums but "backpacker" of course was never available, unless I was willing to use "backpacker5634239753". I can't remember numbers if my life depended on it. So, that was out, tried hiker, same problem. But after returning from a long trip, my then girlfriend stated, "hikerman you are finally home". A bell went off, it was available, and now it's history, old history at that.
But I never once woke up in a weenie costume.....that I can remember! Honest... Well, I'm pretty sure.

I was given my Title Pit Boss by NASCARs Jeff Hammond and his Pit Crew BBQ group. The National Tailgating League and now Bristol Motor Speedway refer to me as Pit Boss Mike Hedrick.
Too many people claim to be Masters or Pitmaster yet very few are really masters of all parts of Pit work.
I may not be the master but I am my PITs BOSS
That's my story and I'm sticking with it!

I thought I would renew this, a lot of new members I would be interested in how you got your user name. I think my favorite is Ken(Two Pockets), who got his from his Dads nickname; he always had to have shirts with two pockets!

Ask either Hub or Art, it just kinda fits. It would even more, if I'd found a logo with the St. Bernard and the little keg around his neck ! ! !
Plus, my real initials are BD (Bill DiPietro).

Saber 4 was my radio call sign as a scout platoon sergeant in an infantry battalion so I used it for my company name and user name.

Nothing very original about mine. I've been an Okie for virtually all of my life and I was born in 52.
