I am entered in a BBQ contest in a small town where I went to high school. Sept 27/28... had all my plans finalized and the team ready to go. But, Got a call from Baby Gurl... she has been voted top 6 for Homecoming Queen. So, My Dad duties always have, always will take priority. I get the honor and priviledge of escortin my beautiful Daughter out to mid-field during the homecoming game. I wouldn't trade that for anything, not even an invite to the Royal, Jack amd Memphis in May. It's gonna put me 4-5 hours behind getting my site set up, cookers out and going and meat prep. But all is good. I did tease that I was going to wear my dirty greasy stained da Wreck'n Q Tshirt, old shorts and University of Oklahoma crocs. That as soon as she got her crown on her head, flowers and a kiss from her old Pops....I was making a mad dash off the field and outta there. That way I wouldn't have to stop and change clothes! She said, "Daddy, you can do whatever you want"! Did I tell you guys she's a sweetheart!

Your doing the right thing for sure. Both my kids are grown and about to leave the house, before you know it their gone on their own. Spend all the time you can with them

Indeed; when I look at pics of my kids when they were single digit age, it feels like just yesterday, even though they are both grown with careers.
However, there is something to be said for being empty nesters ;D
Best of luck in the contest

What a great story! They do grow up too fast. Good for you!

Sounds like you're a proud pappa, and who could blame you?
David, you are right... they grow up way too fast! My daughter started college this year and the boy just turned 17 this week.

Good for you Dan!

Dan, you might be very busy, but you're going to have a GREAT weekend. Good luck to the young lady being Homecoming Queen and good luck to you at the competition!

Great decision, Dan. Showing your love for your daughter will have long-term payoffs. She'll continue to be a part of your life when she has her family.
Those that are selfish about their time often wonder later why they don't see their grandchildren as frequently as they want.
