Driving home 15 min ago & 2 blocks from home what's on the curb?
Well not only was it gone in 60 seconds, it was in my backyard within 180 ::)
Easy to rehab, 1 wheel was off , but kindly inside the grill.
The cooking grate is well used & I'll need a new one.
3 quarter sized areas of porceloin missing.
I need a fastener for the wheel & it's good to go ;D

20 in pizza pan for heat shield $13
Hubs for loose wheel $1.50
Other than dealing with the porceloin I'm good to go 8)

That is a nice looking cooking grate.
-
I also welcome you to Weber nation!

Nice score.
Here is a link I got from another forum to weber retore related forum(s)
"The Virtual Weber Bulletin Board .

You should be able to find quite a few threads on restoration and repair of porcelain chips. General consensus is hit the rust with steel wool, mask the area off, and hit with hi-heat paint. Others just use steel wool and Pam."
Hope it helps.

nice score. webers are great. 8)

Gus thanks.
I don't think I'll find high heat paint to match the faded green so I'll clean & season with Pam

They fall apart so quick, you cant even wheel em to the curb to chuck them out....... >:(

Nice score LA, I would also run to Academy and get the original hinged grate. It is nice to have to add coals for long running indirect cooks.
-
Woo-hoo!!! I'm getting a Weber Kettle...for $10 on BooKoo (local online classifieds)
It isn't the "cadillac", but it WILL give me some experience with a kettle to find out if I can cook on one. It is a 22 1/2 inch model. Probably add a folding rack and be in good shape.
I'll send updated pics when I get it cleaned up...note the wooden handles.

Nice find, Jaxon - Welcome to the Nation!

Congrats on the grill.

nice grab Jax

Take a look at these. Pricey, yes. But they last forever and are great to work with. I love them on my Performer! http://www.amazon.com/Seasoned-Cooking-Surface-Modular-Grills/dp/B004BRNUIC/ref=sr_1_2/187-8739824-2181541?ie=UTF8&qid=1380580613&sr=8-2&keywords=weber+grill+cast+iron+grate

Great Score and welcome to Weber Nation Jaxon :)

Enamel is intact except for small places around the legs. Inside cleaned up pretty fair with wire brush...will add elbow grease this weekend.
Needs new grates - will probably use those that fold so I can add fuel and chips as needed - 22 1/2 inches. Needs a new handle on front IF I'm going to move it around much, but my plans are to use it on the gravel pad next to the offset. I have the Weber half-moon charcoal pans...they will come in handy.
I'll see what I can cook this weekend...Don (IR2Dum) will be here Friday...maybe he can give me some pointers although you guys are very helpful. He really likes the Orange Soda Hot Wings, so we'll probably try them. this grill should be ideal for those because they need to be cooked over indirect for about 45 minutes, then finished over direct heat. (again, folding grates will help with that process).
Anyway, now I am in the Weber Nation. I know I can count on y'all for help.

Nice score!
It's raining Webers here ;)

LA inspired me with his find...I looked in the classifieds to see if anyone had a kettle to "give away" and found it.
I would not spend $100 for ANOTHER grill. I have 7 different ones. But with all the chatter lately about the "mother of all charcoal grills", I thought $10 was a fair price to pay to get into the game as a beginner.
We'll see...
-
Hey even if you don't need it for $10 it's cheap entertainment ::)
-
Nice finds L.A. & Jaxon both!
Jaxon, you can go to your local Ace Hardware and find parts for that puppy.

Thanks, Cliff...I'm tryin' to wait for LA to let me know what to buy. He is my long-term mentor on things grillin' and such. He seems to know way yonder more than I do about grills and fire buildin' - so I try to listen to what he says about it.
You ever heard such malarkey in all your life? ;)

Very Nice!

'Tis a far cry from that HUGE hunk of smoker you have there. But it'll do for now.
B T W, Thank you for coming to the Gathering.

Found out my curbside kettle is a 2002 model.
The buyers got their money's worth & I expect I'll get mine ::)
