I have been trying to make a better Yorkshire for years and never produced what I would say would be acceptable. The last time I made Yorkshires they looked like this,
(http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x412/lmh8/image_zpsfbc704ab.jpg) (http://s1180.photobucket.com/user/lmh8/media/image_zpsfbc704ab.jpg.html)

After advice of members then I bought a pop over pan and the was the difference,
(http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x412/lmh8/image_zps96cbe679.jpg) (http://s1180.photobucket.com/user/lmh8/media/image_zps96cbe679.jpg.html)

Much better results. This is a mini pop over pan, they do make a larger. Some day down the road I will try it.

Here is the recipe I used,

Awesome CDN! Thanks! I am going to ask for the title on this thread to be changed, and - to move the thread to the recipes so we can all find it when needed.

Awesome CDN - this will get us started! Of course we welcome more info as you want to add…..

Just curious, the reference to the "Toad in a Hole"  - Is that where you put something in the muffin cups other than just the batter - sort of a "filling" ?  Ideas and suggestions ?

Down South we make "Toad In The Hole" that is simply a piece of bread with a hole torn in the middle, buttered and toasted in a frying pan then break an egg and pour it in the hole and let some spill out of of the hole and over the bread. Let it cook a few minutes then flip it and cook that side. I made some last weekend. It is about the quickest and easiest breakfast you can do if you are in a hurry.

I must admit I have never cooked Yorkshire Pudding and can only remember eating it on one of our trips to London.

No unicorn was harmed in the making of real Yorkshire pudding. :D However; My Samsung Galaxy Note 2 now refuses to communicate with my Macbook Pro. So - I can't upload photos from it to the computer, unless I go thru the P.I.A. process of e-mailing each one to my other e-mail acct, then open them on the computer - then send them to Photobucket….you get the picture…t(hat you didn't get in the thread... ;D)

I guess the harsh truth about the state of technology today - is that we are all the guinea pigs in the competitive world of "mobile applications".

There are very, very few that are 100% functional, across all platforms, 100% of the time.  Just as in my case- prior to the last update on this phone ( which is automatic and no option to opt out of the up-date ) it worked perfectly. But, someone at Samsung did not test on Macs for full compatibility - or at least not with enough variables such as different OS versions, etc….

So, that is why I am as much of a Luddite as I can afford to be. Fewer programs = better reliability.

I read online in some recipes, that you should let the batter rest for a long while or make it way ahead of time in order to get the biggest rise.
Don't know what y'all's experiance has been with this.

I could only let the batter rest for 30 minutes. But I beat it on high speed when adding in the flour…I got a really good rise tho. Still trying to work around the technical glitches in order to post some pics….I liked the flavor and aroma for sure. There are a lot of other savory - or sweet combinations I want to do with these.

I made my batter late morning so it sat for about 7 hrs with no harm done. I did cover with plastic wrap.

I also experimented with filling the cups to different levels, I will be going to about 95% full next time.

You don't want to weight them down..they are sposed to be light. You could grate different kinds of cheeses, some herbs appropriate to what your cooking or you would defeat your purpose. A lil gravy or au jus to dip them in would be nice. The pan is the difference. Pam ☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི

There are certain things that I'll leave up to the experts (AKA restaurants that get it right every time).  Yorkshire pudding is one of them.

Did you upgrade to Kit-Kat Tee? Android really messed up this upgrade IMHO!

Now whenever I get a e-mail my phone flash goes off! And there are old download notifications that keep popping up and won't go away >:(

My plan and svc are an auto update…not sure what OS the phone is running - but it is making me crazy with weird issues. I am considering ditching it and going back to a  Motorola. Now that they are owned by Google - I would hope the problems like this would be fewer.

Kit-Kat is causing problems no matter what carrier. This is Google's fault. I am sure the next update will fix the problems but meanwhile we all suffer.

I still have not updated to IOS7 yet either. Wish I would have waited on my Android phone :'(

This is perfect timing. We hadn't made any in a while were just talking about making some Yorkshire Puddings (or pop-overs). That Yorkshire pudding recipe makes a lot more sense than many others I've seen for the proportions. I have it Copied/Pasted.

Thanks a bunch for posting it and for the link Mike!

Down South we make "Toad In The Hole"...

We make it up here too. It's also sometimes called "Sunrise Toast." We don't make it as often as we did while the kids were growing up (they loved it).  Even now my 18-year-old daughter asks me to make it for her once in a while.

My mother -- 45 years ago -- used a Pyrex 9 x 9 dish to do her Yorkshire pudding. Poofed up nicely but crashed once out of the oven <lol>. It was still good!

I still have not updated to IOS7 yet either. Wish I would have waited on my Android phone :'(

I use an app that allows me to use my phone as wireless hotspot without carrier surcharges. A colleague was doing the same, but when she did an update, that app suddenly failed. Sometimes I think updates are more often fixing holes in their programming that allow them to more tightly control our phones. My phone works fine and I've not done a single update since I purchased it.

On topic, I've never been able to successfully make Yorkshire pudding, but this recipe looks easy, and delicious. Will definitely try this some day.

Took my stab at popovers. Have always loved Yorkshire pudding/popovers, but haven't had in a long while. We were snowed in today, couldn't get either vehicle out thru the 4 ft drifts so tried to call off work, but work cancelled on me, and said stay home....too cold!  Got to -19F with 25-35 mph winds. I think it was -51 real feel out early this am.
This is a sourdough popover, recipe courtesy of King Arthur Flour.

Ingredients

1 C milk
3 lg eggs
1/2 C sourdough starter, fed or unfed
3/4 tsp salt
1 C KAF unbleached flour

Directions

1 Warm milk in micro until warm to the touch
2 Mix milk with eggs, starter, and salt. Then add flour, don't overmix.
3 Heat a muffin or popover pan in oven while pre-heating oven to 450F
4 Remove pan(s) from oven, spray each hole with Pam, and fill to top with batter.
5 Bake for 15 min. then reduce oven to 375F, bake 15-20 min. more or until a nice brown color.
6 Remove from oven, and pan, serve immediately!
These came out real nice, although very orphanish as no two look alike. I overfilled one.
I put my favorite on them, apple butter! Mmmmm

Those look excellent! I tried a new technique when I did mine yesterday that I was sure would never work. You put the popovers into a cold oven, set the oven to 450 degrees and cook for 30 minutes.

It worked!

I made a chuck roast with lots of veggies for supper and some Yorkshire puddings too. No pics of chuck roast but...
Basic recipe -  I weighed everything.
4 eggs weighed out and warm. Let sit out..overnite is fine.
= parts milk
pinch of salt
= parts sifted flour
Mix eggs, milk and salt. I did this in my KitchenAid mixer. Add sifted flour and mix real well till a thick creamy mixture. Let sit for while and before pouring into pans, add 2 tbs cold water and whisk again. Run thru sieve before adding to pans.
Preheat oven to 450º with the pan in it. Put drippings or peas size of lard or 1/2 tsp veg oil in hot pan. Pour into cups and immediately put in oven. Bake 20 minutes.
