Title: Easy Beer Bread Recipe
Post by: Saber 4 on March 31, 2014, 01:25:15 PM
I haven't seen this recipe here and I thought I would pass it on after I made a loaf with a shiner black lager last night to go with our beef stew. I got it from Cathouse Willy on the Bradley Forum but I don't know where it came from originally. Changing the type of beer used will change the flavor of the bread, I haven't found a type or flavor of beer that didn't make a good loaf.

Cathouse Willy Beer Bread Recipe
Beer bread, this is not yeast bread, but it's quick and very tasty.

Ingredients:

Servings:

6-8

3 cups flour (sifted)
3 teaspoons baking powder (omit if using Self-Rising Flour)
1 teaspoon salt (omit if using Self-Rising Flour)
1/4 cup sugar
1 (12 ounce) can beer
1/2 cup melted butter (1/4 cup will do just fine)

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
2. Mix dry ingredients and beer.
3. Pour into a greased loaf pan.
4. Pour melted butter over mixture.
5. Bake 1 hour, remove from pan and cool for at least 15 minutes.

UPDATED NOTES: This recipe makes a very hearty bread with a crunchy, buttery crust. If you prefer a softer crust (like a traditional bread) mix the butter into the batter instead of pouring it over the top.

Mixed with melted butter on top and into the oven

Out of the oven and fixing to get flipped out on a cooling rack

And after I cut a couple of slices for dinner

Look wonderful it really does.  Problem is Kimmie, she thinks it's wrong to cook with beer.  Beer is for drinking according to her   ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'd say that cheap beer (Bud, Coors, & Miller) is for cooking and craft beers is for drinking.   ;)

Make her a loaf with a good beer and once she get's to chew a bite of beer she'll be sold.

I thought that at first but the better the flavor of the beer the better the bread tastes is what I found out after a few dozen loaves.

Yeah I need to try a batch in my SRG to see how it will turn out camping. Can't wait to see how yours turned out.

Wait no longer.Beer was Pabst Blue Ribbon, wife said it was light but VERY good, she wants to try a stout beer.VERY impressed us both,at 5000 feet should have added 10 minutes cook time, but still almost absolutely perfect.GREAT crust

The money shots that dont do it justice

Looks like you got it down perfect, I love that cast iron pan. I'd be curious to see how a loaf turns out in the cast iron with the melted butter mixed in the dough like he described in the Updated Notes? I tried it once in my non stick thin loaf pan and wasn't real happy with it, but I'm betting that cast iron would make all the difference in the world. I bet a good oatmeal stout would make a good loaf for your wife.

Good comments Saber. It was pretty cool how the bread boils on the sides about 20-25 minutes in.I like the cast pans, thats mostly Lodges cure on it,Ive added some and it is really no stick, bread just fell right out.Good pans,we like em a lot, probably make half my bread in em,then also the dutch oven, same story.

Thats a crazy good recipe for sure, and so simple anybody can make it,cant see how to mess it up,no rise, just mixed and thru in 375f oven.I'd like to see more breads along this line if anybody has some.
