Been awhile since we had a non fire in the back yard so off I went and got it going. Son was happy roasting marshmallows but the dog wanted to partake in the fun.

Wish I could burn like that in my backyard, tried it once with some leaves in a fire pit and got a visit from the local fire department. Appearantly burning leaves in the city limits is not only frowned upon, it's illegal.

Reminds me of some of our fires at the campground...

One time we had been drinking just a bit and decided we wanted a big fire. Well we found this large tree branch that had fallen from a tree nearby. So we stood it up into the barrel and liberally coated it with Coleman camping fuel then set it ablaze. It was a sight to see. Lit up half the lake and could be seen for miles!

20 minutes later we got a visit from the Park Ranger. Seems he got a complaint someone was burning a cross at the lake! Turns out the branch when burning looked like a cross from a short distance away! Boy did we get some looks from the other campers the next day :D

Good thing the Ranger knew us ;)

I used to run a steady fire/burn pit in the yard back home.  The "non-fire" was the occasional time that it went out.  Not really possible in the DFW subdivisions.
