Just like brisket in recent years, popularity often causes a price hike with no change in supply side costs.  I do the same thing as you Capt.  I check a couple of times a week for "reduced for quick sale" meat to either cook quickly or re-freeze.

I've got a business membership at Sam's that lets you in at 7 AM before the regular members so I can get in and head straight to the meat counter where the cutters have reduced everything that has a best by date of that day and tomorrow.

I didn't know about that option, not that I would ever be up there that early ! ! !

But I do appreciate not paying sales tax.

I have a Sam's membership but not a business account.  That is nice to have.

All the reasons given in the link are correct; however, it left out one very important factor---the diversion of a tremendous amount of corn from feed to ethenol.  A substance that lowers your gas milage and harms many engines.

I think the hours are good till 9 or 10 AM so you can still get some good deals, I don't always get there that early with it being an hour drive into Dallas.

Very true, it's more money for the farmer to get a higher taxpayer subsidized price per bushel than to sell it for human or animal feed at market value

Interesting point, Dee. I was in Belize several years ago - there was a shortage of corn tortillas because the corn in Mexico was being sold for ethanol. So, a staple food for a culture was skyrocketing in price to subsidize a government program. Corn tortillas were not only incredibly expensive - they were being rationed at the store - crazy!

when I got my business membership at Sams they needed a copy of my DBA (DoingBuisnessAs) and a copy of my Sales Tax Certificate

Yeah Robert... that is the problem.  They need a tax ID for business accounts.

Same issue with the Stevia fake sugar that's all the rage, it's made from a food staple of the native peoples so they are now having to figure out a new food crop to replace the over harvesting to feed the fad.

Didn't realize it they were that strict on it, my membership is an associate member card through the wife's work as part of her benefits.

Why not just upgrade to advantage membership? I get in at 7 am as well with that one and some cash back annually.
