So I go to the farmers market this morning

This is the St. Paul farmers market. As these things go this is one of the best in the state. Only state grown stuff is allowed. Unlike the Minneapolis farmers market where you can buy pineapple

So I was looking at this pork vendor selling organic, free range, no hormones, never been yelled at pork. They were selling a few kinds of bacon for $8 per pound, and were also selling pork belly for $10 per pound

Now I'm not a smart man, but that just didn't compute.

If it is good bacon, $8 per pound isn't too far out of the ballpark.  The pork bellies, however, are over the top.  My new butcher has them priced at $3.49 per pound.  Even he admits this is kind of high.  The difference in price must be the "not yelled at" part.

Just saw bacon for 5.99 at the supermarket.

Probably due to more demand for bacon than belly. Not as many people looking to buy belly but the ones that do will pay the premium I suppose.
