Griddle Cooking
« Reply #-1 on: October 12, 2014, 08:52:15 AM »
About a month ago got a camp chef 2 burner camp stove for hunting camp, I planned on buying the the 14 X 16 griddle made for one of the burners, but found the 14 X 32 on clearance for only $20 more than the half sized one!
Well I've bee a soda jerk, a buss boy & a waiter, but never a short order cook.
Well anyway not being selfish, but a section for griddle cooking would help this novice!

Burgers, pancakes, eggs, sausages, and hash browns are a few of my favorites done on the griddle.  ;)

Throw some bacon on there first, it will help season the griddle.

I like to put some bacon on, cook it, then throw some hamburger patties on the bacon grease. Put a slice of cheese on the burger right before you take it off and you will have a fine bacon cheeseburger.

I like to cook fajitas on mine, great for cooking the veggies and meat together.

I like a nice thick tuna steak on the griddle, just a little sear on the outside, still red and cool in the middle.

I also like to cook a nice ribeye on the griddle, better than on a grill to me.

Smoke is back in the saddle. Our Hughes Net dish is bigger than our Direct TV dish  ???

As you all know I am an old fry cook. I have a Blackstone griddle which we use for breakfasts and suppers. Sometimes a steak seared on that grill is better than over charcoal.

I agree with Lost Arrow that a griddle section would be real nice.  8)

2Pockets got it right..season with bacon then you can do anything. I make all my steaks on open fire or CI. just go for it.  Pam  .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

We recently added the Cast Iron & Campfire Cooking section.  Griddle cooking would fit right in perfectly there.

A friend of mine bought one of these:

He also bought a couple pieces of some kind of heavy duty sheet metal, cut to fit.  He uses 8 (or so) firebricks to provide space for airflow and does everything you would on a flattop in commercial kitchen.

Dee, when his kid was in Cub Scouts, the Pack was renting a similar unit to go to the jamboree, etc.  My buddy started doing the cooking when his kid joined (he also does a little catering on the side).  He approached the Pack Leaders about buying their own instead of renting and they declined.  So he bought one himself and then rented it to the Cub Scouts whenever he did the cooking.  It was paid for in two years ! ! ! !
