Ah Heeee.....What day!!!

Time for another background check (CCW renewal) I spent the afternoon at LV Metro PD fingerprint divison with some of Las Vegas' finest residents, hookers and child molesters.  Escort service workers, we know what they really are, have to get issued work cards in Clark County to be legal and the sex offenders have to register themselves all at the same location we have to go process our applications for concealed carry.  What an experience this is, glad I only have to go through this once every five years.

I feel sorry for ya as it use to be that way in Chatham County GA but laws have been change.

Much simpler now. Also in Georgia a Weapons Carry License covers open and concealed carry of handguns and knifes with a blade of 5 inch or longer and made for offense and defense.

PS.  Finger Printing is done at the UPS store for the back ground check.

I wish all states would allow "Constitutional Carry" like Alaska, Arizona, and Vermont, the whole idea of a permit to exercise a constitutional right is just wrong IMHO.  Nevada requires a permit for concealed carry but no permit is needed for open carry in Nevada, go figure.

That means anyone, even without a background check, can open carry anywhere it is legal to do so in Nevada, but we need a permit, which includes a background check, a firearms proficiency test, and a written test to carry concealed.  Doesn't make sense to me that we are required to go through all that BS just so we can cover up our firearm when we don't have to do it to carry it out in plain view.

Same thing in NC Ralph concerning concealed/open carry.  I agree, it doesn't make sense.  However, we don't have to mingle with the lowlifes to apply/renew.

I am please with Georgia's new weapons laws except for being allowed to carry a weapon, if licensed, into a bar if the owner approves it.

Out here in the Wild Wild West we can carry concealed in any establishment that serves alcohol, including bars, without owners consent, however if the owner knows you have a concealed weapon and asks you to leave the premises you must leave or run the risk of an arrest for trespassing.  It is also legal to consume alcohol while carrying, I know not a smart idea, but as long as your BAC is less than .10% it is legal to carry both open and concealed.

Time for another background check (CCW renewal) I spent the afternoon at LV Metro PD fingerprint divison with some of Las Vegas' finest residents, ...  What an experience this is, glad I only have to go through this once every five years.

Because I work in the school system, I have to be background checked every five years as well (full state and FBI checks).   I am lucky though;  I can do it directly through the school district, am done in a matter of minutes, and don't have to go through that at a police station.

I went through the same thing when I worked for the DoD, our background checks were done through base security and not through the local PD.  To bad I cannot do my CCW background checks that way.

And in Chatham County GA we go to the UPS, ship a package or not and get one's background check in minutes. ;D

Here in Ky anyone can open carry but a permit is required for concealed. You're right, doesn't make a lot of sense. I got my conceal carry back in the mid 90's when they first allowed it.
I just recently relegated my too-big-to-hide Glock 22 to a mattress holster behind my head, and picked up a used Sig P938 for carry. Soooo much easier to have on you without being irritated by it.

When I originally applied for my CCW in NC, and when I renewed it  had a heck of a time getting finger prints that would take.  I was called back both times.  They didn't want to hear that I used to carry some pretty healthy clearances back in the day.  The last time the lady officer asked me what I did for a living.  I told her that I was retired.  My hobby was cooking.  As soon as I said that she asked me how often I washed my hands.  I told her "a lot"!  What had apparently happened was that I was washing all the oils in my hands away, thus leaving it really difficult for any definition of my finger prints to show through.  Don't worry, I'm not going out to test that theory and rob a bank.  I'm too old and definitely too slow for that kind of nonsense.

And yes, they do get their pound of "cash" initially and when you renew in NC.

Yep, they sure like to have that cash cow.  My Nevada renewal cost $63.25, my Utah renewal cost $49.00, and my Florida renewal cost $112.  At least Florida is now good for 7 years, Nevada and Utah is still 5 years.
