DSLR recommendation

I'm looking to upgrade from my Sony camera to a DSLR (alright, it's primarily for food porn)...

Any recommendations?

I have been looking at a "mirror less" system Mike. Olympus EM-5 II. Incredibly light, and feature rich. And the new Nikon D5500 is out now - and it gets fantastic reviews.

Unless you really need A DSLR for other reasons, a good quality point and shoot will do the job for food porn photos at a much lower cost than a DSLR.   I have both a Minolta DSLR, with a small fortune in extra lens, filters, and accessories plus an Olympus point and shoot.  The DSLR is great for action shots and long telephoto lens work like capturing eclipse of the moon and wildlife.  For simple shots, with no action involved, my Olympus does a decent job.  If you plan on taking your photography beyond just food porn shots, then I'd go with a DSLR otherwise a good point and shoot would probably do just fine.

Funny timing. Tim and I just had a long conversation about cameras. The short part - I love my  Nikon D300S for anything that requires versatility - sports, animals, etc. I have a bunch of great Nikon glass that complements the camera's versatility. But for everyday stuff - vacation shots, walking around, and food shots I really like my Fuji X-10 (they have made some significant advances in the past few years.) It has a decent zoom and is easy to use. One of the things I like is they spend less time on "hi-tech specs" and more time on making the results look like film. If all you are looking for is a well spec'ced camera that is easy to use and delivers consistently good results, I would look at the Fuji X series. I've not used the Olympus that Tim is talking about, but I do have a small Olympus for diving and love it.

Well I have 4 cameras that I use at times. I have a Sony Point and Shoot that does great photos, a Sony NEX 3 (mirrorless), the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 and a Nikon D7000.  I have loads of glass for my Nikon D7000 and I tend to use it the most for my food photos. I just got the FZ200 (I believe Tim has one) a couple of months ago and I use it when I don't feel like lugging the glass around. I took it to the zoo a couple months ago and love the zoom and the constant F2.8 aperture.  All my cameras get used for one thing or another, but my go to is my DSLR D7000.

I have a small Olympus camera (not in front of me so don't know the model number) that I have used for diving in the past several years. Looking on-line Olympus has gone sooooo much further! I love this little camera. I do have an old Nikonos V film dive camera that is my gold standard, but the Oly has done a great job and lets me make many mistakes with some good shots. The Oly is also dust safe and freeze safe (good for skiing, etc...)

The D5500 should be a very nice choice in DSLR.

What I have found to be really nice is the wifi...  And the ability to use my phone or pad as a remote.  Totally awesome features. I first thought those are just cool tech features but I hate using a camera without them now. The Nikon D5500 has these features as well if the DSLR is what your after.
